Weird noise yesterday. Over even the smallest bump I can hear (and feel) some sort of 'clack'just as I cross even the smallest bumps. After checking for a loose bearing somewhere, I held the bike upright and gave it a bounce. Down was fine, but it snapped upward with no rebound damping, making the noise as it seemed to suddenly top out. I tried rebound damping adjustment, but no change. After a couple of bounces I noted that it does not seem that the suspension is returning to full extension. Press, snap-up & clack, then, the suspension slowly continues. So, I can compress the rear shock, it suddenly extends partially with no rebound damping, suddenly stops with an audible noise, then continues to extend with normal rebound damping. Pretty clearly, something is amiss inside. This is not a problem of which I've read before. |

If there's no sign of a leak then I'd say the internal valving is sticking open before slamming shut and then continuing to dampen. Maybe contaminated oil or just wear. I vaguely remember someone talking about somebody that rebuilds these shocks. Might try a search to see if anything pops up, if you haven't already. Have a Merry Christmas Mark and I hope you figure it out. |

I would think any decent suspension place could do it--had several done over the years out this way--- |

You might try to contact Terry ('TMod') - he hangs out on the TriumphRat forums, and probably elsewhere. He rebuilt my Sprint ST Showa unit and upgraded it - very reasonable, and depending on the time of year, pretty quick turnaround. |

I found a local shop that does suspension work. It turned out to be operated by someone I used to race with. Reunion time. Also, all parts for the shock are still available. He disassembled the shock and found that all of the hard parts are fine. The issue seems to be that the shaft seal failed, air entered the shock, and I'd occasionally lose rebound damping. Since I rode gently after the issue appeared,and did not ride again. Nothing inside was damaged by the impacts of the piston hitting oil. I should have a fully reconditioned shock back within a few weeks. Naturally, almost all of the parts need to be ordered. |

Well I don't know how the weather is in Arizona right now but this is the best time of year to be "waiting on parts"! Sounds like good news and also good to know information. Thx! |

There is no good time of year to be waiting for parts out here. Fortunately, I have a few other bikes. I picked up the shock yesterday. As soon as I finish replacing the starter gasket and the O2 sensor I can button things up. I'll probably find that my recently installed Metzler Tourance NEXTs are better than I thought. |

+1 on T Mod. helped me on my Sprint as well. I had race Tech repair my Uly. Short turn around time. Happy with rebuild. Note RaceTech used a different spring that dropped the ride height a little. with sub-zero air temps here, no motor biking |
