I have a 2008 1125R and I had always considered swapping in the CR gearing. The only crappy thing is switching out the swing arm (cause I have the blue frame and the swing arm will be black). So I found a great deal on some core components for the swap (swing arm, left and right foot pegs with the pulley bracket for the CR). But still not convinced on swapping the swing arm. So I ask three questions: 1.) Those who have swapped, is the improvement noticeable/worthwhile? I’ve heard it’s better for city driving, since it’ll put the RPMs in a better range. 2.) Anyone have pictures of a 08 blue frame with black swingarm? 3.) Any place, anyone, I could source the oversized pulley so as to not replace the swing arm? I’m not even sure what kind of business to contact for a custom pulley or sleeve. Thank you all for any inputs. |

The reason you have to change the swingarm is the belt version has no tension adjusters which the chain version has so you can adjust slack in the chain. I have often wondered if an engineering shop could do a conversion to a belt swingarm. |

Steve, EBR used to sell them. I bought one. The amount of work to modify a swing arm is extensive. I think EBR sold them for $1800 |

Yes, should have bought one when I had the chance. |

I have just read the OP again, sorry, I misunderstood your question, you should be able to get the blue paint though or a powder coater may be able to match it. |

I have an 08 R and 09 CR, the gearing on both has their pros and cons. The CR gearing is night and day different, and I end up riding the CR more aggressively than the R. The R gearing is more "comfortable", it feels better at highway speeds when cruising. I don't have answers for the rest of your questions though. |

I remember this swap and a thread from years back and found it ... but the pictures are gone dang it. He does give first hand feedback and it might help.. I have a Cr, love the gearing and belt over my Sx with chain, I ride her a lot more and don't find slower speeds problematic. Here is the old thread. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/569038.html |
