I am preparing to rebuild the top end and was wondering what I should do with the Muffler. Just running stock engine with race kit. Right now has a nice repacked once Wiley Co with an upgraded better fitting baffle tube. Its worth a lot of money. In the corner of its home sits the stoker there are a whole bunch of you tube videos about cutting mufflers apart and adding cherry bombs and thrush mufflers. I think It might be easy to do on these. Even if I gut it out and put the same tube and packing in as I used for the Wiley I think its going to be very similar to what I am running now. Has anyone done this? What would you do? |

I haven't seen too many people modify stock tuber exhausts, but it was pretty common when I had an XB. I had sent mine in to the guy from Hawk Exhausts who cuts it open, modifies in the inside and welds it back shut. It sounded great. Don't see any reason you couldn't do something similar with a tuber exhaust. https://www.hawkperformancemufflers.com/buell-xb-m od |

Stock tube frame mufflers seem to be slowly going up in value. I wouldn’t modify the stock muffler, especially if it’s clean with no dents/damage. I’d look for an alternative. |

Agree with Screamer. I have "gutted" stock mufflers over the years, and find the best alternative is to use the aftermarket systems. As I recall, modifying the XB muffler was an option as the muffler had dynamic baffling controlled by the computer. Therefore it was worth modifying the muffler to maintain the stock dynamic baffling. |

"Stock tube frame mufflers seem to be slowly going up in value.....I’d look for an alternative..." Totally agree, the demand for stock parts is becoming more and more evident. If Buell's ever do catch up with the collector's market then Buell's in stock form will be the most sought after machines. I have ALL of the stock parts from my S1W / S2T in safe dry storage, just in case... We can only hope. (Message edited by kc_zombie on March 15, 2021) |

Its hard to watch the Wiley Co Carbon fiber wrapped just age on the X1.... that wont be used much. Those don't seem to be going up for sale anymore. Turning the X1 muffler into a removable rear cap and installing a strait pipe with packing makes more sense to me. Saving the stock muffler is a bad idea for me and any future owner. The Stock ECM is a EPA nightmare and isn't anything good for your motor. The people who worked on the mappings at VDO will tell you so and apologize profusely for having something to do with ruining your new motor!! (Message edited by victory on March 15, 2021) |

Years ago I gutted my S2 stock pipe. It was not a good sound. There it away and bought a CF V&H. |
