I agree, but I also understand the motivation behind the theory of Dark Stuff.
In particle physics, they have a cult of symmetry, if there's a positive charge dingus, there must be a negative charge dingleberry. Up Down Strange Charmed Master & Sub. ( I think I got something confused )
Basically 4 Forces & 4 "intrinsic properties", which if removed, if you're lucky you become a blue glowing guy.
So when the current guess as to how big, fast, and heavy reality is didn't add up right, obviously they missed something important.
Occam's Razor isn't a Law, it's a guide to not wasting time. But they either had to invent an entire new Force and Type of Matter, then plug in the numbers to make them fit current theory, or admit that they don't fully understand a fundamental part of physics. Probably Gravity.
Given a choice to become leading experts in an exciting new field, or admitting something you thought you knew was wrong?
Yeah, politics gets involved. You need funding for your submissive quark detector, or Dark Lives Matter telescope, & have to compete with the guys from MIT that want a density survey of background noise.
Thus, Astronomers have to either embrace the current fads, like using Global Warming as an excuse to study Neptunian moon atmospheres, or Dark Matter to get an orbital UV telescope built and launched... Or just sit around and argue.
Unfortunately, it's a standard belief that all the low hanging fruit is gone. Very few super genius Einstein & Hawking types that can sit and think up new stuff from old thinking. You want to do particle physics? The old cyclotron at the University just don't have the power to crank out the theoretical thingee. You need the facility that uses all the Helium on Earth and makes a figure eight bigger than Australia. Underground. ( which leads me to want a science fiction story where a genius invents a Fusion reactor just to make more Helium for his other research )
At least that's the assumption. Not sure it's true, but in a lot of development, the First 80% is easy, and usually obvious after someone explains it. 90% takes some work. The last 5% takes a Lot. We seem to be hung up @ about 93%, but it could be 67% with big egos.
Oh, by the time many people realize they're going to be Kulaks the Harris/Biden* regime's gun czar will have taken care of that problem.
I expect an Executive Order on ammo sales any day now. I'm not sure if it'll be on the news. On the one hand, it would please their base, the CCP. On the other it would enrage Citizens. On the gripping hand, they need to do it to stay in power forever, and that's priority #1.
The Times also took issue with a remark Obama made in an interview in 2010: “If over a billion Chinese citizens have the same living patterns as Australians and Americans do right now, then all of us are in for a very miserable time. The planet just can’t sustain it.”
The newspaper accused Obama and those concerned about meat consumption in China of bigotry.
“In the eyes of some Western elites, Westerners can have the privilege to eat meat while Chinese should just eat grass,” the outraged newspaper accused. “They are reluctant to see Chinese are living an increasingly abundant life, and that the living standards of the Chinese are getting closer to the Westerners.”
For decades I've been making people angry with the statement, "If you believe in Man Made Global Warming, you can't let 3 billion Chinese have SUVs. And to do that you need to go to war & commit genocide."
So... We need to sign a treaty with the world that NO ONE EXCEPT US actually does as they committed to? KMSMA
Barry never made a legal commitment, refused to call it a treaty so Congress never voted on it, and Donald told the world we weren't going to honor Barry's illegal unauthorized surrender to hypocrites, but have instead ACTUALLY reduced pollution, unlike the rest of the planet.
Insanity to expect the Asterisk Administration to improve on the Barry Regime failure to get results from the Scam.
From 2010. Ringo's book, The Last Centurion, had just come out.
In the Novel, a Solar minimum had caused a severely long cold spell, ( like they feared in 1977 ) with massive crop failures. Plus, an Avian Flu outbreak with human to human transmission. With 1918 levels of casualties. And a newly elected Democrat President,( obviously Hillary), reacting poorly, etc.
A nice semi-apocalypse, a ripping good read, if not for snowflakes.
SO... In 2010 they had just had the Swine flu, with 18+k casualties, ( later estimated to over 150+k ) and record cold, coincidentally. Hill lost, so that part didn't actually happen, then.
Keep in mind, the book was written before these real events, and certainly wasn't predicting this by intent! It's just coincidence, except a good author of contemporary and near future fiction will research the subject matter.
For example, a police drama in 2020 will have radios and pepper spray. Probably body cams. Your plot would use those daily items just as a 1920s cop story would have telegrams.
Thus I find the coincidence between the Novel, 2010, & 2021, amusing and alarming in various degree.
Pandemic, check. Political change in D.C., check. Cold snap? Not so far.
Whew. That isn't the fictional world you want to be in.
The bigger problem is figuring out how to spend the money they made up out of nothing on pet projects.. While pretending to do good for the climate.
So a community recreation center aka, where the fights will be, is somehow going to change the temperature of the planet.
Ditto the tax incentives to install a giant server farm where the power to the town's people will be shut off if the wind blows, but not Google. ( who bribed them much better than the peasants )
Because it doesn't matter what you do to fix imaginary problems you don't want to actually do anything about, lest your excuse to spend money disappears. Thankfully, there's nothing they can do to change the Sun's output.
I'm waiting for the proposal to use the reeducation camps to produce power by using stationery bike and other exercise gear with generators. 8 hours Political Indoctrination, 8 hours on your treadmill.
I can easily see this as being a major part of the Harriscare program. It's a win win for Health and Green Energy.
Of course, once began, we're dependent on that power, (the electricity,) the budgets, the bureaucracy, the high pay government jobs, and the Power. ( over others ) So it's a permanent solution.
Like all real spaceships in the future, the biggest part will be the radiator to dump excess heat into space. Remember every human on board puts out about a hundred watts of heat. Every light, especially the bright ones used in hydroponics, puts out heat. Every computer, every motor, the monitors, the fans to circulate the air so you don't wake up from sleep with a headache from the cloud of CO2 around your head, whatever makes your power, and all the life support... puts out heat.
But the story is the rocket engine... which is much like Zubrin's salt water nuclear, but with a lot less of the continuous sub kiloton blast drama, although I am curious how fuel storage and start up will work in real life.
The primary source of heat in a spacecraft is the sun. If it weren’t for that, there would have to be heaters. The craft would easily radiate waste heat from fans and equipment. Those minor heat sources wouldn’t be enough to keep the crew from freezing to death.
On ISS they take heat from the sunward side and move it to the leeward side.
