SO what is the deal. I cannot find anything specific in reguards to NOT using Amsoil 75-90 Gear Oil, yet some keep saying its a no-no. I have had it in there for about a 100 miles, and have noticed nothing unusual, actually seams to miss shifts a bit less, and neutral is silly easy to find.

So whats the deal? Or does someone have the link to the info I need?

Thanks guys

Bruce

You may not notice it now, but the friction modifier it contains may work it over a long period and degrade the wet clutch. Friction modifiers are not recommended for a wet clutch application - a well known fact. That's why most motorcycle engine oil has JASO "MA" designation - ones without friction modifiers, as opposed to JASO "MB" - ones with friction modifiers.

For Buell XB, you can use either one for the engine compartment as it does not share fluid with the transmission/wet clutch compartment. I use ones with MB (Amsoil 2000 synthetic racing oil) for the engine compartment since it reduces friction.

Similarly, some gear lubes also contain friction modifiers (not the same ingredient as the engine oil, however). I was told by Amsoil engineer (I called and asked) that its gear lube is not approved for a wet clutch application and told me not to use it.

Mobile synth 75W-90, on the other hand, does not contain friction modifiers (again I asked an Mobile engineer). But they still do not recommend it solely because it has not been specifically "tested" for a wet clutch application. But many Buellers have been using Mobile gear lube w/o problem so far (as far as I know). I use it my self and have had no problems with it's use.

motor oil is much cheaper than gear lube. another reason to use an inexpensive 20w-50 synthetic.
