I've heard that this is not difficult, would someone please point out how to do that? |

1. email Daves, he is on this board all the time. He is in sales at Appleton H/D in Wisconsin. 2. Purchase the Shop manual and Parts book for your model. Honestly Henry, I am surprised that a guy like you who seems to be intent on tearing his bike apart, ( just like me:-) doesn't have them already. PS. Occasionally a guy is selling a very inexpensive CD version on eBay. Search under Buell parts and accessories. |

Oh, I've the manual. Bought that 2 days ago. Just that it is 40 miles away at home and I didn't carry it with me, that's all. Thanks for the help. |

Right above the shifter is the primary inspection cover. Open that. Be careful not to ruin the gasket. Jack up the bike. Check chain tension by moving it up and down and see how much free play it has. Turn the rear wheel a bit and check again. Do this a few times so you've checked it at several points on the chain and sprockets. When the engine is cold, free play should be 3/8 - 1/2 inch (or 9.5 - 12.7 mm). When the engine is hot free play should be 1/4 - 3/8 inch (6.4- 9.4 mm). If you need to adjust, there is a locknut located below the shifter, and in front of the sidestand. Loosen the locknut and adjust using an allen key. Tighten the locknut 20-25 ft/lbs (27-34nm). Hope that helps ya. Ingemar. |

So this is actually the clutch cable you are talking about, huh Ingemar? When I changed the tranny oil couple of days ago by taking the cover off (the black one with 3 Torx bolts), I looked in there and I don't see the chain. The end of the cable was apparent only. |

No, not behind the shifter, below the shifter. Maybe this will help.

I looked in there and I don't see the chain. The end of the cable was apparent only. Rut-roh. That means you've got the new prototype invisi-drive and even our Buell Jedi Master Court can't help you. You'll just have to trust in the force If you took the inspection cover off and can't see the chain, then you've got bigger problems...either it's adjusted so tight you can't see it or you need to stop changing your oil in the dark Ingemar is NOT talking about the clutch cable, he's referring to the chain itself. You should try and wait to perform service until when you and your service manual are reunited. Bad things will occur if you do not. Chris |

The big round cover with the three torx is the clutch cover. To the left of that is the primary chain inspection cover. You should see the primary chain from the clutch when you look left and down or up. The primary chain's rear sprocket is in fact the clutch basket. |
