I have read a few things here and there on the internet indicating that a new belt will be tight for a while, but this thing is really tight. My bike is a 10000 mile 06 Uly, no issues, well kept, wheel bearings new, drive/driven pullys look nice. No defects. I threw a genuine HD belt on just as a preventative thing. It seems so tight, I really don't dare ride it.... I am wondering, is this normal? It seems like a very bad thing, mechanically speaking....huge load on tensioner bearings, transmission shaft bearings, wheel bearings ....to say nothing of the belt its self. I am just going to skip my post belt swap ride until I get some more info.....seems too tight. I did count the teeth and the new/old belt are @ 135 |

A brand new belt can fit very, very, tightly. It will loosen up a bit as it beds in to the sprockets. |

Yep they are tighter than a guitar string when new. They do quickly stretch a bit and break in. I have seen others who have slightly enlarged the mounting holes on the tensioner, this provides a little more slack on the belt and possibly helps extend the life on the various bearings, especially with a brand new belt. |
