I assume it either helps cool the engine or keeps the heat off of your right leg. either way mine has been off the bike for years. I thought about putting it back on but like the looks better with it off plus I don't have the fasteners for the lower bolts. I'll put it back on as soon as I find some Adel clamps. I might have saved them.
