Hi All, I went on a quick ride today and about 30 minutes in got a nasty vibration and a bit of a knocking sound in the front wheel. I pulled over and saw that my right fork was leaking pretty good. So I turned around and limped home. In the short ride home the front wheel vibration and knocking sound came and went. When I got home I was only able to do a quick visual inspection and the leak is the only thing I can see out of place. The wheel feels solid, no side to side motion that I can detect, It spins freely and doesn't sound like grinding bearings. Could this all be caused by the leaking seal? | ||

Would think that it would need to leak a lot of oil for this effect. In your driveway could you check for irregularities by doing some slow speed hard stops? Speaking of stops, could there be any brake sticking going on too? Head bearing play? You may be doing some detective work on this. | ||

Check air pressure in the tires? | ||

If the front wheel bearings are good then the steering head bearings might be causing the noise. I can't think of anything else that would cause vibration and noises. Maybe a loose brake caliper?? | ||

Check your horn behind the fly screen. | ||

 I forgot about the horn! Good call Vern, mine rattled until I fixed it. Common problem. | ||

Ha, horn may rattle but it won’t shake ( or roll ). Good point about the tire pressure though, didn’t think of that one. | ||

Sounds like the oil leaking on the front brakes and caused the vibrations from the rotor gripping and slipping from the contamination. |
