The '99 M2 service manual calls for a primary chain adjustment of (I believe) 3/8 to 1/2 inch play. IIRC there were several older threads addressing this as "too tight" but I can't seem to find them. Anyone have a an idea where these threads were hiding? |

LaFayette advised 3/4" at the tight spot. (Message edited by Jim00X1 on May 10, 2020) |

He doesn't say, so I would do it the same way the manual says, which is cold. He says if you run these engines hard the FSM adjustment spec is not loose enough. If you PM me your email address I can forward the doc to you. |

I remember it being 3/4", but I also remember any time I'd be riding along slowly at a consistent speed, my primary chain was rattling again the inside of the engine case in a very loud and embarrassing way, I just went in and tightened it up a little and it sounds much better. I want to say I'm currently back close to around 1/2". |
