What I say about the citizens not being the same as the rich political leaders applies to both Parties. There still is a small but significant difference. Simplistic version is the Ds want to wield unrestricted power. The Rs are content to be restricted. It's not you. The basic assumptions of the Greenies is that humanity is a plague upon the Earth, except them. Lawyers attacking police & protesting the government. I don't know if that's regional, religious, educational, or national. Are there similar, but perhaps less radical, acts in India? The allegations that this was triggered by a viral video mocking the lawyers summoned in an earlier incident incline me towards the cultural control mechanism of Shame as a major "cause". Lecture mode on. skip if easily bored Shame is different from Guilt, which is the Judeo-Chritian cultural social control mechanism. Guilt is internal. You are supposed to feel guilty when you violate social norms. ( rational or not ) Your behavior is then to be corrected as your self imposed bad feelings change your attitudes. It's taught behavior from an early age in traditional western societies. If it seems lacking in Leftists, it's poor upbringing and deliberate cultural destruction as part of the replacement of God & other traditional Western thought. But in Islam, middle eastern, and some Asiatic cultures, ( Japan old school, mostly pre WW2 American cultural restructuring, and China, others ) Shame is the dominant mechanism. Shame is external. It is imposed upon you, not a desired spontaneous internal struggle. Others Shame You. The basic idea is to enforce cultural norms & morality. Unlike Guilt, which can result in suicide from irreconcilable internal conflict, Shame based behavioral controls often result in rage against the external threat to status and happiness. Guilt you are taught to do to yourself. Shame is an external attack. I suggest further reading on the subject. It's a fundamental difference in psychological conditioning that is a very real and major part of international and cultural conflict, to the very real results of war, terrorism, and genocide. Examples include the Japanese military leadership's attitudes in WW2. Not just barbaric behaviours towards prisoners and conquered people, but an entitlement mindset that justified conquest. Racism was a factor too. I don't know if rapper culture "he dissed me" murders are the same. And Islam adds a layer of bull crud to the cultural control thing by distancing your actions from your self imposed self image by insisting you are in submission to God's will, and while the Prophet didn't invent the Shame culture model, he ruthlessly exploited it, and codified it into Sharia Law. Thus many conflicts in history are between people that operate on a fundamentally different mind setting. You often hear the advice to be sensitive to the culture when dealing with Arabs or the Chinese. It's not bad advice, but it's only partly useful unless you grasp the roots of the difference between you. Makes you look like a wimp and a hypocrite if you apply "I feel guilty for offending you" language to "you offend me by Shaming me" people. Then again. I could be wrong. It could be simple entitlement mental illness like snowflake college students, or the aforementioned Leftist perversion. But it's systemic in that culture. Lecture mode off. | ||

Shame has also, in Eastern cultures, led to suicides - I thought that was where you were going with the WW2 reference, but there were multiple leaders who suicided once they realized "what they had done", or that their movements had failed and caused massive loss of friendly life, and rather than live with shame upon themselves and their families, they would suicide as a way to restore honor to their families. Take the hit, so their kids and wives didn't have to be shamed forever. The left does (well...CAN) understand the concept - it is woven throughout the fabric of many movies that are common in pop culture. First to mind is the Klingon mindset of honor...as well as many references to "death before dishonor" in various historical and sci-fi movies. The artist-side of the Left seems to get (or at least, repeat) the concept...but the political side conveniently ignores it. And the "educational" system? well....we won't go there. | ||

I don't need to be enraged by a show. The difference is Clint Eastwood tells a true story. And still does, because they never lose their jobs or face justice for their crimes. And it doesn't matter if the majority of FBI agents are law abiding. Because they won't clean their own house, it means there is zero reason to think the Person waving a badge is not a criminal, liar, thug. And since for years, the only news that mentions the FBI seems to be reports of agents breaking the law to leak partisan political lies. Since BLM, and its founder, have openly called for violence against police in general, though not this officer specifically, it is reasonable to assume that their followers would commit acts of violence against police officers when presented the opportunity. But I agree that, generally, it would have a chilling effect on our rights should he be found liable. But in a way, a very narrow legal way, I hope that he is. | ||

So I closed on my new house today. While having many papers put in front of me, with a layman's explanation of what they were, suddenly the lady from the title company paused. She started with "THIS one is new", and explained that if the seller happened to be an illegal alien, and if they happened to have capital gains from selling the property, and if they happened to leave the country without paying taxes on those capital gains, that the IRS would seek payment from the buyer... Wait... WHAT? Yep, I heard it right. She also made the point that this new regulation hadn't, to her knowledge, been challenged in court yet, fully implying that she expected it to happen at some time. So the IRS is now trying to hold the buyer of a house responsible for an illegal alien skipping out on taxes! WTF!?!?!? How is the buyer supposed to even know they are dealing with an illegal alien? The problem with this is that it will never pay to fight the Feds in court. I recently read a story about a deer hunter who was using a hover craft to navigate a river through a national park in Alaska. The feds say no hover craft in the park, but the state controls the navigable river. He spend a million and a half to fight that through the supreme court! He said he did it out of principle to help protect the future rights of his kids and grand kids. Obviously few can even begin such a battle. Far easier to settle with the IRS in this case, even if it get up to say $50,000. It's just far cheaper to pay it off. It's going to suck for those who can't pay, but they certainly can't pay to fight either. INSANITY!!! |
