I have an 08ss with 06 Uly suspension on both ends (yes it’s totally badash). Problem is, even with preload maxed out, it’s using 1.5-2 inches of fork travel just sitting on the stand. It gets worse when my big ash jumps on, and leads to an understeer condition. What are my options for stiffer or better springs? |

The original 06 springs were a constant rate spring but in 07 they changed to variable rate spring. Many, including myself, changed to the 07 spring for a smoother ride. It could be your springs have collapsed over time and some new ones would put it back. I've found that the 07 springs and 5wt. Amsoil fork fluid made my bike ride extremely well. The suspension tuning seemed to work much better. I can go from a highway "Cadillac" ride to a curve eater with a quick adjustment. I would take them apart and compare to the factory manual exploded view and see if you're missing any parts or if the springs have just collapsed. |

BTW, I ride with saddlebags and trunk and I'm roughly 230 lbs. with gear. |

Tootal- Thx for that info. I am pretty close to your weight, so that’s a help. I’ve got zero issues with the fork on my 08 Uly. I had them refreshed with seals and oil recently by my suspension guy, so I’m confident he didn’t leave anything out. Any idea where I can source the 07 springs? My google fu seems lacking. |

The Stock part number is J0113.2AK, they are $24.24 each plus tax. They are still available through Harley so if you are still in the Austin area you can come see me at Central Texas Harley-Davidson and I can order them for you. If you would like a more accurate spring rate for your weight and riding style, check out Racetechs website and they will give you different spring and valve options. |

Danno! Great info, sir! I might check into the Racetech option. For those that have done it, is changing the forks springs a big job? |

Here's a link to Surdyke. Looks like they sell them a piece, but $18.52 a piece is still cheap. http://www.surdyke.com/PartsMain.aspx?PartNumber=J0113.2AK&SubCatID=&CatID=&Name=&CatName= (Message edited by tootal on January 02, 2020) |
