The Riding School is $150 and includes track and classroom instruction from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., continental breakfast and lunch. Space is limited. You will need to wear a leather jacket and pants (or chaps), or a Cordura suit (such as Aerostich), full face helmet, gloves and boots. When you arrive at the track, you'll be asked to help tape your motorcycle's headlight, taillight and turn signal indicators (we'll provide the tape). If you choose to leave your mirrors on, they will also need to be taped. Or, you can just take them off. Your headlight bulb will need to be disconnected (so the tape doesn't melt from the heat of the light). Your motorcycle must be up to date with any recall work.

The Experienced Rider Course at Uke's includes track and classroom instruction from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., lunch and a class photo. Space is extremely limited! Riders will need to wear a helmet, jacket, long pants and boots. Each participant should have at least 2000 miles of riding experience under their belt before taking the course. Sign up directly through Heather at Uke's, 262-652-3653. Cost is $50.

=====

In addition to the Homecoming and the H.O.G. rally, there is also a "Cycle Fest" in Butler (located between the Pilgrim road and Capitol Drive H-D engine plants in the town of Butler, take the Hampton exit from I-45). August 24-26th in Lower Frontier Park. With a swapmeet on Sunday from noon to 5pm. $5 admission.

I'm not connected with it, just something I picked up a flyer for at the local dealership. In other words, if you come to Milwaukee on Labor day weekend, there should be plenty to do in addition to the Homecoming activities.

Gonna be wall to wall bikes around here then.

Jose,
I'm in Hartland about 5 miles or so from the host hotel. If I'm still Buell-less by then and am stuck riding the Honda, you'll have to give me about a 3-hour headstart. :) Anyway, probably just meet up in Oconomowoc at the resort parking lot. Then either slab it to Madison on I-94, or maybe find a more interesting route. Still a month away so there's time to work out the details.

I think I'm going to start working up some route maps for the area.

Just get us through Madison. I can't remember how many times I have tried, maps and all, to get through and I always get lost in town. There has to be a by-pass.

I have no problem doing 94 m to m, after all, its a long rt to Viola. Isn't it essentially a state line to state line ride?

Jose,

The route Mapquest gives between Oconomowoc and Viola is 150 miles and 4 hours and goes around the south side of Madison then then goes right thru Sauk City. Mapquest shows Oconomowoc to LaCrosse as 185 miles @ 3.5 hours, so there may be a faster way to Viola which I'm looking into.

Also, there is an S&S employee with a nice Buell running a big S&S engine who shows up for some of our local BRAG rides. It'd be great if we could hook up with him for a guided route from Viola to Sauk City.

The latest bypass I've found for Madison is to take I-94 to the I-90 interchange. Then go south to hwy-12. Hwy-12 then takes you on an interstate-grade freeway past the south side of Madison. Probably the easiest way to avoid the downtown Madison maze.

Got my BRAG Homecoming packet in the mail today, maps, pin, t-shirt, decal, wristband. Only thing missing per the contents envelope is a "cool multi-tool". Anybody else get their packet today? What's the "cool multi-tool" look like?

Mikej,
I think it would be great if some people wanted to ride over to Viola. This is a great area for riding and I think everyone would like to check out S&S. You will be suprised at what we have and do out here. It is about an hour ride from Sauk to S&S. I was thinking of leaving Sauk Prairie around 1:00 so we can get over here and take a tour before the plant shuts down (3:30). Depending on how everyone want to head back, it is about a 3 hour ride back to the Waukasha area by freeway.
I will be leaving from the south side of Milwaukee on Thurday morning. Is there a place where people are meeting to ride to Sauk?
The more people we can get to ride along the better. If it sounds like there are several people comeing over, I will talk to the marketing guys and see if we can do something cool.

Later,
Jeff

Jeff,
I mentioned it at the BRAG meeting at Hal's last week. Right now it's just a few people, not sure of a schedule yet. Rick wanted to put a group together to ride to Sauk maybe leaving Hal's or Oconomowoc around 10am or so. I was thinking of leaving Oconomowoc around maybe 7am or so, head straight to S&S, then hit Sauk on the return trip. I'm open to suggestions.

Let's see, from the Buell page:
Thu., Aug. 30 morning
Self-guided rides to Sauk Prairie Buell in Sauk City, WI
11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Lunch at Sauk Prairie Buell
1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Self-guided rides through Southwestern Wisconsin's best roads
6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Pool Party at Olympia Resort - Mexican Fiesta, doorprizes and music

Looking at the schedule, you're schedule might work better, maybe leave Oconomowoc between 9-10, head straight to Sauk, hang around and eat, then head to S&S at 1pm. That actually sounds better, plus I'll get to sleep in a little.

The number of people could be anywhere from 5 to 50. I'm not sure how many will be at the Homecoming, have you heard any estimates? I guess it will depend on how loud we announce it. Hopefully Buell will have some route sheets available, or maybe S&S would want to have some flyers available at Sauk????? I think I'll work up a route map with three or so ways to get to Sauk, I-94 => I-90 => 12 around the south side of Madison and loop up to Sauk as one way. A second way might be to take hwy 18 all the way to Madison, then connect up to hwy-12. A third way might be to go north from Oconomowoc, then zig-zag to hwy-60 and take that to Sauk. And I have no clear idea of how to get to S&S from Sauk.

I've got my vacation request in, but we're having a TUV audit here that week also so I might have to push to get the time off (or change jobs which might happen anyway).

How's this, meet in Oconomowoc that Thursday morning, maybe grab a light bite to eat or some coffee or juice at the resort/hotel, head straight to Sauk, then to S&S, then back to Oconomowoc. Route and exact time to be finalized later.

Anybody reading this who's thinking of wanting to visit S&S please e-mail me and I'll start a list to get a preliminary head count. Please put S&S as the first three characters of the subject line, otherwise I might delete it as SPAM (Stinkin' SPAMMERS!). Thanks.

Jeff,
So far I've got maybe 8 or 9 people who are interested in visiting the S&S shop, including the two Tripper noted above. Probably could be more once people get to Sauk and realize how close Viola is. S&S is well known, and I think mentioning a trip to visit there would be akin to mentioning a tour of the Hershey chocolate plant to a bunch of chocoholics. :) Or a trip to Ben & Jerry's to a bunch of ice cream lovers. I'll be sure to post a followup next week on the head count.

Are you planning on being at Hal's that Wednesday night? If so why don't we plan on meeting up at Rick's desk to pick a final departure point and time.

Anybody going to Homecoming from Canada?
I'm from Nova Scotia and planning on leaving
Sunday to arrive Wednesday, may be able to convince a buddy to go too.
Does anybody know how to contact the ferry operators to cross lake Michigan? It may be
on my route plan and I'd like some info on
schedules, duration, etc.

Mike,
I hope to be at Hal's on Wed. night, but I am going to the track day at Blackhawk so I don't know when I will be back for sure. Sounds like we will have a good sized crew. I agree that when more people find out at Sauk, there will be more that decide to ride along.
This is a bad place to vist it you have a Hp fetish. I ended up working here after I visited.
