FYI- they didn't make an S3T in 1999- there is no such model. 1999 was a strange year- they only made the S3 that year--- but buyers could add the touring package (basically making it an S3T). But technically its not an S3T (Message edited by sbaugz on April 29, 2019) (Message edited by sbaugz on April 29, 2019) |

I’d leave the breadbox, you get to keep the fairing lowers, makes good performance, quiet, ect. It is a little bulky but set your drink on there or something. If you must do aftermarket, I’d suggest a Forcewinder (www.useforce.com). |

Personally, I have been running a forcewinder for several years and find the breather arrangement to be utter dogshit. The power output is nice and the ease of maintenance is great. Lots of knee room: important to a tall fella like myself. It will always dribble tan oily water from the breather on your leg and shoe. I routed mine to the street finally just to stay clean-ish. I would suggest keeping the breadbox and adding a K&N element to that unless it displeases you greatly. The reason I went to the forcewinder was that the dealership thought it would be cool to gut my X1 airbox. It didn't filter air. The breadbox can be gutted while still sealing for the filter I'm pretty sure. X1 airboxes don't seal at the bottom and need that snorkel that the rocket surgeons threw out. |

Thanks for the info everybody. Not sure what I’ll do. I recently laid the bike down and scratched up the left fairing, took them both off, so I might just end up going aftermarket |

I like the forcewinder on mine. For the breather I just ran two lines down to a T, then a single hose that runs down between the cam cover and front pulley. My bike never leaks out of the breathers, but even if it did it would just drip to the ground in that arrangement. Is the 93 FI or does it still have a carb? If you really want the breathers to function similar to how they do on the stock airbox and you still have a carb, you could always try picking up the X1 version that has the extra fitting for the O2 sensor, and run the breather into the filter in that spot so it still get sucked back into the engine. You could also just get a ham-can style intake and run the breather into the back of that. In my opinion the ham-cans are the best looking intakes, but I think my forcewinder is decent enough looking that I'm not gonna bother putting out any extra money to switch it. |
