New Blaster here. Does anyone have any carb jetting or tuning info they's like to share for 5000' riding?

Thanks, in advance.

HJ

2005. Stock airbox, appears to be a K&N filter and a pipe and baffled muffler. Honestly have no idea of brand.

Thanks,
HJ

Depends on pipe and muffler internal diameter, if it’s “homemade”, it could be loud AND restrictive. At that altitude stock jetting just might be fine. 170 main. 44 or 45 pilot/slow jet. You’re looking at jets between 165 & 175 and 42-45. That’s pretty much it. Higher altitudes mean leaner jetting. If your jets are any higher than the numbers I’ve given, you’re most certainly running too rich.

Got it running well. Starts right up, and the idle drops down in about 20 or so seconds. (tells me the auto choke is working) After its warmed up, she can spin right up to the rev limiter with no hesitation. The problem is, the idle mixture screw needs to be opened 4.5 turns out! It's way too loose at that point. In fact it actually fell out after several minutes! This tells me the pilot jet is too small. I dropped the bowl, and I've got a 165 main and 42 pilot jet. The spark plug looks good. A nice tan color, so I'm assuming that the main jet is okay, but I'm thinking a 44 pilot jet? Also, the previous owner apparently lost the pilot jets o-ring. I just ordered one from CV Performance.

Oops, looks like HD doesn't make a 44 pilot jet. . . .will have to go to a 45. HD part num: 27170-895

You can get a 44, but a 45 will be fine, especially if you’re 4.5 turns out. But if the 0 ring is missing, that can change things.
You can try a 170 or 175 main. It’s not a huge jump. Just don’t get sucked into the “bigger is better”. See how it runs.

Picked up a 45 last night, and ordered the o ring/washer kit from CV performance. It'll be a few days to get, then we'll test.

All parts came in and have been installed. She starts and runs great! (been testing for over a week) 3.25 turns out on the idle mixture screw.

Thanks for all the assistance.
