I know that many S owners have changed out the stock handlebars. Some have even installed the Crossroads bars. I'm looking for opinions on what affect those handlebar changes had on riding position, handling and also appearance. Please tell me the name of the handlebars you are using when you reply. I know I want to change out my bars but keep switching back and forth between a lower handlebar and the Crossroads clip-ons so all opinions are appreciated. Thanks. | ||

I'm running Moose racing CR low bend.They are the same bars that Bubba Blackwell uses on his stunt bikes.I'm a tall guy and long arm's so they feel much more comfortable to me.Because they are wider the turn in when riding is much faster and they don't have much of a pullback to them so they feel way better to me. Well you've seen mine. Two inch rise, 5.5 inch pull back, these are the lowest you can use and not hit the "tank". At 29.5 inches long the bike flicks back and forth with no effort at all. http://www.spec2.com/bars.html If you want to flick the bike while still sitting "upright" choose some bars. The Crossroads bars are what I'd like, more aggresive riding style. Keith (S k u l l y) has 'em and reall y likes 'em. I've also thought of plain ol' clip ons. Trojan has these, and the only problem I know of is, he had to put a spacer in the instument cluster to move it forward an inch. | ||

Here's the picture of the "stock" crossroads bars with 7 degree down angle (same bars as used on the tube frame crossroads bars) vs. the custom made 0 degree down angle/narrower. Tough to see the difference in this shot, but it's a big difference from the seat, much nicer. I could ride with these all day, the stock crossroads bars put just a little bit too much weight on my wrists, and the width made stopping tougher on the upper arms/shoulders. If they were in the PREFECT spot for me, they would be about .25" narrower and .5" higher. But these are pretty darned close to perfect. I like how forward they are, something you can't get from tubular bar bends.  | ||

Looking for something taller and wider, I picked up a set from an ebay vendor in Butler, PA that were listed as Triumph Chopper Bars. In reality, they only added 2" to the width, rise and pull back and now the bike has a dirt tracker feel to it. Not bad for only $26 plus freight. Incidentally, they handle great in the twisties, are a real life saver when you hit the loose gravel and dirt plus they allow a for a variety of riding positions to break up the monotony on the long hauls.     | ||

Oneal CR250 low bend. Very comfortable and cheap...like $17. Best part is they were about a half inch longer on each end and it allowed me to mount my CRG bar end mirrors without the adapters. | ||

Here's mine... http://www.themuell.com/article.php?id=14 Dual Star dirt bike mirrors, Pro Taper 7/8th Extra wides... I thought I was going to have to shorten them for the throttle cable since they are wider than most dirt bars, but if you get the allignment right you're set. The braced dirt bars give you a LOT more feedback (due to less flex), but also a little more vibration. I'm using Renthal dirt grips, too, so I could proly reduce the vibration by using road bike grips. Wider bars are gonna give you tones more leverage, better control and more confidence, since the bike is less twitchy. Lower and forward swept bends are going to put more weight over the front of the bike, giving the front a more planted feel. | ||
