Help! I’ve spent over two hours taking parts off of my Uly and I still haven’t gotten to the fan yet! The service Manuel says to remove the rear shock and I still can’t get to the fan! I didn’t want to replace it myself but the d alert is so back logged with repairs so I thought I might try to do it myself. Big mistake!!!

It's been several years since I replaced the fan on my '06.
I remember having to take everything rear of the top shock mount, including the shock. In order to gain access to the fan.
Even then it's a puzzle getting the fan out, then back in... but it can be done.

While I was there I replaced the 02 sensor too. Again it was tight but a 02 sensor tool borrowed from PepBoys did the trick.

its ok, trust the service manual. first time I pulled off the rear section took me a while, too. it seems like there are a whole lot of pieces, but in reality there's just a bunch ; )

and don't throw out your fan frame. there are some people out there (like me) who will go thru the trouble of replacing the fan with one from amazon, but the housing/cradle is unique to Buell/HD

The shock has to be pulled out from the bottom.
Do yourself a favor and add about an extra inch of wire to the fan as hooking it up otherwise is a real PITA.
You can also file off a smidge on the fan's cutaway for the wiring to help make installation a little easier.

I gave up and took my Uly to the dealer to have them install the stupid fan! There was too much that had to be taken off to even get to the fan to work on it. The next time the fan stops, i’m Not replacing it!

I just replaced my fan last weekend. In 90 degree weather it was not that difficult as the plastic parts had a bit more flex I suppose.

After replacing it and verifying that it worked I took it for a 150 mile ride (still around 90 degrees) no issues.

Next day go to take my wife out for a ride and after filling up my fuel pump wont engage (relay clicks though). After a few minutes it starts working again so take off only to have the bike die a mile away.

Someone came by with a trailer and took us home. Bike started right up once there.

I'm thinking ground wire in steering column could be part of problem as I've had to do a little song and dance (LT/Rt/LT) before starting it. Anyone with similar situation?

In that case, you WILL be learning to rotate the engine and replace your rear rocker gasket on a regular basis.

Found the issue with starter engagement, was my clutch handle switch. Should have thought of that as I have already disabled the one on my son's 06.

Still having trouble in the heat with my fuel pump. I have a new one coming but wonder if that is the real problem. Not sure how far from home I want to be on the bike. Any one else have a fuel pump that seems to work fine in cooler temps but needs a break when riding in 90 degrees +

Try switching the relays around. I've had relay trouble recently so I replaced them all and no more issues. Just because it's clicking doesn't mean it's connecting inside.

Thanks, I always switch the relays around and even went and bought a new one since one was cracked. Turns out my issue appears to be the ECM. Using a friends temporarily. So now looking for an 06 or 07 ECM anyone?

There used to be more photos but they are gone now.
Chances are this repair will restore your ecu's function.
Also any XB12 ecu from 2004 to 2007 will work.

Thanks will check it out. Worst case scenario is I keep using my ecm and just have to take more frequent breaks to readjust the ECM LOL. Sometimes has gone a few hundred miles then sometimes only a few. Heat seems to be a factor.
