Hi ya'all, I'm new to this group. I live in Montreal (canada) and I have a 2008 Buell Blast. I love the bike but it seems like a never ending cycle of repairing things and seeking for parts to replace. A couple days ago it was my exhaust header that broke while riding the bike. Now, except for a 350$ full system (second hand) on ebay, there is no place where I can find a header/or the whole system for my bike for a fair price. Plus, there is no garage willing to work on my bike except Harley but they don't sell the parts I need and don't work with parts that haven't been bought there. Like I said, I really love the bike but it's getting harder and harder to get the parts I need and the whole thing is becoming a hassle. Help? |

You might try a regular muffler shop where custom fit pieces are welded up as standard procedure Is the down pipe still good? Like, from the exhaust port down? Or did it break right at the port? My bike came with the flange that goes inside the exhaust port missing, so I found one that almost fit & welded it in. Then that broke several times. The port studs stripped, came loose & disappeared, then one broke and the other stripped it's threads when I tried replacing it. So I drilled & tapped new holes with the flange turned a quarter turn. There's plenty of material in the head to get away with this without drilling through into the exhaust valve spring or port. I had the down pipe break in several places, but mostly right at the muffler. Currently, I've changed to a slip-fit connection to the muffler using an oversized pipe that slides over the remains of the old pipe. This can move around without stressing the welds, but it's really 'rattly'! The heart of the problem is a bad combination of worn out muffler bushings and a lack of a counter-balancer inside the engine. Maybe all of my engine mounts are also shot? The bushing at the front, under the engine is a critical part that will make your exhaust break if it allows too much movement If you can change the pipe to include flex joints of any type, the exhaust will live longer If the down pipe can still be used, then chopping off the old muffler and welding in new pipe to fit a aftermarket muffler will be easy Early on, my speedometer sensor died. I made one from scratch using part of the old sensor for the anchor bolt & pigtail. That cost me about $12 to do and is still working perfectly. I posted a full write-up on this forum somewhere, but can't find it now I broke the drive belt while riding in snow. A baseball sized chunk formed under the swing arm and fell onto the belt where it runs under the rear sprocket. I didn't even feel that, it just snapped with no warning. Belts are spendy, so be careful if you ride in snow! ps I have dual sport tires on my bike, so it has enough traction to get into trouble. I wish Eric had been a little smarter with his design on the bike. He should've made the rear swingarm a half-inch longer and stepped up the belt tooth count to an even number. The generic belts are a lot cheaper than the special oddball belt the Blast uses |
