Over the past few months the Mighty Useless has had the idle slowly drop down, down, down.
Today I finally had enough and pulled the TPS and the coil lead was rubbing through the insulation on the red wire leading to the TPS.
Pulled the TPS, cleaned the wire up and gave it two wraps of electrical tape, reinstalled the TPS and tried to preload it a bit and the idle is back up to where it should be.
I don't know if it was the exposed wiring or the TPS developing slop in it but either way, I'm happy the problem is solved.

Steve, do you mean the wire going to the coil or the spark plug lead? The reason I ask is that I spaced my coil up 3/4" using a spacer and longer screws. This put the spark plug lead to the front cylinder between the push/pull throttle cables and kept the lead from rubbing on the frame too.

The wires from the harness which plugs into the coil was abrading the exposed portion of the TPS wiring.
The coil wiring has corrugated plastic tubing and that was what was doing the damage.
