I am doing a chain conversion on my 04 xb12r. I have found everything I need on previous posts except one problem. To use the front sprocket suggested I need the ebr sprocket nut. This is not available for sale as far as I have found. I would like to use the wide spline from PBI, however, I have no clue which offset I should purchase to use the stock nut. I also would need to build a spacer for the rear sprocket or buy one that is also offset. Has anyone done a conversion like this and if so what offsets worked. I am not looking to have a debate on why I should keep my belt. I have thoroughly researched and know the advantages and disadvantages of the chain vs. belt. I also do not want to purchase an overpriced kit. Thanks in advance |

So if you use a PBI 277-20T like I planned to use, a spacer behind the front spocket with these measurements would be needed. 1.70” ID x 2.25” OD x .25” thick I have some parts from the chain conversion I never did on my XB. PBI front sprocket, Dayco Idler pulley 89005 and a CC Rider 530 120 link chain if you are interested. CHEAP! The stock ratio is close to 50/21, so a 52/20 is what I was going with using a Vortex 827K-52 rear sprocket. Never bought the rear though. (Message edited by terrys1980 on January 06, 2016) |

I purchased a swingarm protector from EBR. The chain is so close the the cross bar its scary not quite sure it fits my model 05 buell firebolt. Any tips or pics on how to install or what to buy or fabricate to protect my machine? Also does the spacer for the front sprocket go on in between the sprocket and case or between the sprocket and nut? Lots of newbie questions just trying to learn! |

This Transmission Sprocket Chain Conversion nut will make up for the extra spline length.
http://vulcanworks.net/store/Transmission-Sprocket-Chain-Conversion-Nut.html As for the swingarm chain protector from EBR I'm not sure it's compatible with the 05 model. you may have to do some trimming for it to fit but, I'd call EBR and ask before you start cutting. If it doesn't work sell it on here or ebay. I have a 2009 xb12scg with chain conversion. 21t PBI, 51t Vortex

I have the swing arm protector and it does not quite fit the 05 size its a little tight. I do like but I had a ring machined to fit. I was under the impression it would not be necessary for the extra spline length. but for 20 bucks I may just go with that instead of the route I originally planned. What size rear sprocket did you choose? I wanted to go a couple teeth smaller to increase top end but may have gone too small and can't make up the difference with the tensioner. Thanks for checking in on this! Holbrook |
