Hi, I'd like to replace my stock heated grips with something cushier/stickier. Will I be able to replace just the outer layer and retain the heating element? If so, would I just purchase something like the replacement lining for aftermarket heated grips? Or will I have to shell out for replacing the heating element as well? I'm unfamiliar with heated grips. Thanks! |

Try something like Grip Puppies, the heating elements are part of the grips. |

There are three types that I know of. One fits inside the handlebars and heats everything up. Then there are the ones that wrap around your grips that can be removed. The last is like your stock grips. I like the Oxford grips as they are like your stock ones and are rubber and not plastic. They come with their own controller but you should be able to wire them up to the stock controls. |

I'm going to try and cut the rubber grip off and wrap new elements to the stock cores since both of my stockers went out... they went out independent of each other so I'm pretty sure it's the elements or the wiring or the elements themselves. Stock [heat] elements are wrapped on a plastic core then grips applied over those. There's a set screw (thanks Ross for that info) on the left side grip that holds the whole thing to the bar...btw. |
