Racerx1, I could use some helpful advice.
I'm getting to the point were my engine needs alittle more zip than stock. Also, I've been told by corner workers my bike is starting to smoke.
I now it's a bad habbit, so I plan on getting it freshend up a bit. Thought maybe a good time to do some extras to it. Let me know what you think.
Thanks!

Tom

No problem Tom,

How much HP are you looking for? You can get 100-103hp pretty reasonably and still be a 1200cc engine. The bottleneck in your motor keeping you from getting there at the moment is the stock M2 camshafts and thats where your money is best spent (besides refreshing the engine that is...). I have some ideas depending on your budget that should net about 15hp more from where you are now for not a lot of money.

That picture was from Barber Motorsports park. Place was a riot....got three second places (should have won one of the races). I actually got 2nd in the open twins formula 1 class against 999R ducs and so forth! Kind of pieced the bike together the week before...the motor and frame are a borrowed Ex-pro thunder 1350cc twin carb, suspension, forks, wheels, and ratty bodywork are mine. 126 RWHP! When I die, I hope Heaven is as nice as riding a 126hp Buell at Barber. Just hope I end up going in that direction and not somewhere significantly warmer. At least I'll have CJ for company...

I want to keep the 1200cc status I think, so I can continue in the classes I'm currently running.
The more power the better, but I would really like the motor to stay reliable, is this possible?
There is this one Kegel's HD bike that I use to be able to keep up if not beat on the straights, but since his engine work, he pulls away from me, I'm still able to beat him, but I have to really work my off to get around him now. Do you have recomendations on where to get the work done?
I know a couple people who have offered, but think this is going to be a big learning experience. Do you want to put together a couple senarios on what to do and approx cost?
you could email them to me at my email address in my profile. Or do you want to get together and go over this over a couple beers? let me know.
Thanks!

Tom

CJ must not be online, but I bet hear ears are ringing : )

Tom, do you run supersport or superbike? If you're running supersport, does CCS consider the race air cleaner as OEM since the rule says as produced? Just wondering how much wiggle room there is with OE...

I'll have to look a lot deeper into the rules as I progress, as of now, I'm not sure. Haven't had the need to know yet. Plan on getting that all figured out over the winter.
I've run both lightweight classes.
If you're not winning, they don't seem to care: )
Hope to change that next year, I need some smaller #'s than 5th on my wall. : )

Superbike seems to leave it open, but supersport says:

Original equipment air box must remain as produced. Air filters must be used but may be aftermarket units. Aftermarket air filters are restricted to units available via normal commercial channels and designed for that specific model machine. Aftermarket air filter units that replace part of the OEM airbox are required to maintain the original size and number of air inlet openings as the stock unit.

Original equipment head, valves and cams must remain as produced with the exception of machining the gasket surface of the cylinder head.

I'm not sure how the ham can fits into the first one. It looks to me like someone could complain if they wanted to. Also, reading the second bit, it says OE, but does that exclude running other OE parts (like X1/S3 cams)? I mean, they're still OE right, just not to that bike...

Wes, do you have any experience with sanctioning bodies' look at these things?

As a sidenote, just looking at the rules, I have to think that an XB9 with a 1050 kit would be able to deliver a butt stomping in the ultralight class...

Nah, I'll still run my S3 for track days (unless she lets me run the M2) and for track days I wouldn't need to worry about rules, I could run anything as long as it passed tech for being in good mechanical shape and not leaving parts or fluids laying all over the track. I'm just curious about the rules...

Jason,

Got it! sent a reply...

As far as rules, like Tom said, if your not winning they usually don't check. Supersport is usually more enforced in the 600 class...Displacement violations seem to be the tech violation du-jour lately. I've never had a problem running the ham cam, and OEM parts from other Buells. Haven't read the rules for a while, but a lot of times they give pushrod v-twins big breaks (unlimited displacement in some classes, unlimited mods, slicks in the supersport RWHP 95rwhp is definitely possible using all OEM parts, no porting, and a stock airbox (shell)...

Heather & Jason. Leave the bike stock. That would make the rarest Buell out there!!! I hope you like it. It looks good on you!! Doesn't it suck to have to wait for nice weather now!? Karris already going thru withdraws and I've go about 2 million ideas going thru my head on what mods to do over the winter. Spent Saturday and Sunday in the garage preping the bike for winter storage. Built a new Kick @ss work bench, hung new lites. If everything goes as planned you won't even recognize my bike come this spring. I'm attempting a few things I've never done before as far as making some of my own parts and modifying some stock ones. Even doing a few things to Karris bike. If anyone needs any help, don't be afraid to ask, cause I know I won't be if I need a hand or some different ideas. What time is the game Sunday ? That's assuming I'm welcomed!
