With me at a whole 140 pounds the shock on my S3T is beating me to death. When it's hottest through the Summer, I ride a bike that allows more open air, but now it's cooler and time to ride the S3T again. My bike's an 02 and since I bought it new, I've kept telling myself that the shock will break in - even with the preload backed off it's still way too stiff.

Where can I get an aftermarket shock or have a lighter spring installed?

Thanks for any help.
Dennis

The first thing I'd do is baseline the dampening settings. I copied this from the suspension category in the Knowledge Vault...

Compression Damping (small screw at rear of shock)
M2/M2L/S1/S1W/X1 - 2.25 turns out (counterclockwise) from full in (clockwise)
S2/S2T/S3/S3T - 2.5 turns out from full in

Rebound Damping (small screw on remote reservoir)
M2/M2L/S1/S1W/X1 - 1.5 turns out from full in
S2/S2T/S3/S3T - 1 turn out from full in

Keep track of how many clockwise turns it takes to get to the end of the adjustment range so you have some indication of where you initially were. You may find, like I did, that the current settings are no where near correct.}

Is your spring preload backed off as much as possible?

Get the adjustment right by all means but that last Showa shock was a real pain in the arse. At least it is strong enough. There are a couple of guys in the UK offering to rebuild/revalve the Showa unit now - I'm sure that there must be someone in the States that can do the same........?
I recently refitted mine while my Maxton unit was being rebuilt - it was so uncomfortable that I almost stopped using the bike until I got the Maxton back.
