45 and sunny this morning on the ride in. Heated grips meant I could wear summer gloves, nice windshield and fairing meant I could wear just the 'stich and a heated vest over my Dockers and polo. I forgot how cold that actually is and neglected to wear extra socks. DAMN my feet were cold! If you do the isolators, remember the manual calls for new bolts for the tranny/swing arm mount. Also remember to measure the pin height on the isos. I would also take the time to flush the brakes. could rebuild the carb (which bike?) rebuild/valve the forks? install heated grips |

Gosh, something must be wrong with my bikes. All I need to do is wash, wax, store them and gobble anti-depressants until Spring. |

45??? Heat WAVE! It was 39 when I left on the XB this morning. Riding the XB9R in the cold, makes me appreciate the S3's better wind protection. While I have no heated clothing nor grips, I do wear a fleece under a thick leather jacket, leather chaps, it's not bad. But the S3 is far better cold weather bike. I'm having Hals HD do my isolators, a new belt, and maybe a new tire on the back of my S3 when they are in there doing the swingarm recall/replacement. While I PROBABLY don't need the Isolators, or the belt quite yet, I figure let THEM do it while it's 3/4 of the way apart. And they told me they wont charge me any more than an hour extra labor + parts for changing the isolators and belt. Leaves more time for me to do some motor work |

Bad -- I was thinkin the same thing ;-} XB rocker covers are a great idea, but I've got the originals squared away wo the point that I get wery little spooge in the catch can (empty it one a month, instead of twice a week), and I like the look of the gun-coated center section I've got so, no "just in case" replacement of the stator, outputshaft seal, and like that? btw, fergot to mention -- 30K miles and, yep, I'll rebuilt all brakes, replace wheel, swingarm, steeering head bearings |

Steve...Like your thinking concerning preventative maintenance. I do the same with my X1 and have never had a road side failure. In my case, I just think of it as cheap insurance. I love riding but hate pushing. |

Outrider, it's more of a matter of laziness on my part Normally, I'm far too cheap to let someone else work on my vehicles. Especially something I can actually do myself. But like I said, they will already be 3/4 of the way there... |

Steve...Your 3/4 way there thing is a better explanation of what I was referring to with very few exceptions. Incidentally, in the event the BWB ever starts passing out awards for various accomplishments with Buell's, you get my vote for "Most Frugal Buyer." You and your family have accumulated quite a few for about the going rate for one. |

Outrider, thanks for the compliment. I pride myself on finding awesome deals. It all started with the $1900 3,000 mi Blast, and it exploded from there My brother, awlways a die-hard Harley rider(he has the springer/superglide, that he paid $1250 for ), never thought for a second he'd like a "sportbike", but after riding my S3T on a Sunday night, he was sold on the handling, acceleration, and braking. While still having almost the same storage capacity of an FLH(without the tourpac, obviously). The following Monday, that black S3T came up as a buy-it-now on Ebay for $3200. He grabbed it the second he came home from work at midnight. Then that certain XB caught our eye on ebay... another $3200 buy it now. Minimal damage, but a salvage title nonetheless... $150 later, it's complete, and rideable. There are deals to be had out there. Just need patience, a lot of ebay watching, and the will to take a road trip. I've also found some REALLY good deals on misc parts on ebay. I bought a tail section, tank and fairing for $130 shipped for the S3. |
