I was pleased with the loudness and tone of the horn on my 2003 V-Rod. I've added a V-Rod horn to a couple of my Buells and am pleased on those as well. I know, I hate to recommend anything from the MoFo's at the MoCo, but it was pretty painless and fairly cheap. But now that V-Rod's are no longer produced, who knows how cheap a V-Rod horn will be? |

There's an adjuster screw under a dollop of RTV, on the backside of the horn. Pick out the RTV to get to the screw head and ID the fastener - some I've had are phillips, some are torx, some are a torx stud (requiring a torx socket, not a driver). Start the motorcycle (for voltage reasons), and give it some adjustments. I can pretty much guarantee you can get it to sound decent once properly set. |

thanks for the replies.. Ratbuell: yes, that's good advice. i know about the screw. i've fixed vintage horns before. this horn is loud (or as loud as it's supposed to be) just sounds like a moped. "meeeeep" but louder would be better of course. i have an 81 SECA 750 and that horn sounds like a dual trumpet car horn. the japs care more about US riders than the americans. a good horn is really important on a motorcycle. i'm looking at some chinky horns on ebay but i'll see of there are any used v-rod horns . |

The 96 /97 S1 had a very weak horn but I swapped mine to a new xb horn and it was a huge difference! |

Some jap bikes, like the gpz750, used two horns. |

The two horn system is so they have two different tones not so they are louder. |

I ran a stebel horn on my other bike it might not fit behind the fly screen. It is loud! It's heavy to. I got a meep horn and blipping the exhaust is louder. lol I kinda like it this way, the meep is still kinda courteous and the blip sounds angry. It's a little meep I need most of the time..
