I know this has nothing to do with bikes but I am curious. Everyone talks about FTP's. I know a little about them because I use Flash FXP to get in to my friends computer. My question is how do I set up my own FTP site so I can share what I have? Thanks for the help SAR |

All you need is an FTP server and an ISP that permits incoming FTP traffic (TCP ports 20/21). If you are running Win NT/2000/XP/2003 an FTP service is included but not installed by default*. What you want to do is go to Control Panel/add remove/windows components and look for IIS which includes FTP as a component. You will want to setup security so that everyone cannot access your site. You will then need to know your IP address to give to your friends. Depending on your ISP your IP address can change every few hours. To make it easier, check out no-ip.com whcih will give you a name to hand out which will point to your PC even when the IP changes (you need a client running on the PC) If you have a firewall (hardware or software) you will need to configure it to allow FTP traffic. *I think some versions (ie NT server) enabled IIS and FTP out of the box. |
