Got a leaker, want to put the best seal in, what's the consensus? Also, debating between MadStad and California Scientific screens for some touring, any thoughts? As always, thanks to everybody and thank God for this site!!
I went with stock as I got 50,000 miles out of the originals. If you get a set of velcro fork gaiters and slob them up with a little grease on the inside you may never have to replace another seal. Just wash the gaiter and put some new grease in there at the start of every season.
I replaced mine with OEM seals. After that I added some fork Sox type gaitors. No problems since. I had been riding in Colorado on the dirt roads and the grit is real fine and got past the dust seal. I highly recommend the fork sox or gaitor of some sort to keep the dust out.
I got the All Balls brand from Al Lighton prior to the American Sport Bike closure and installed them after a full tear down and cleaning.
They were good'n'tite with no leaks initially and then one day, the primary side leg left a tiny puddle beneath the leg. It did this a couple of more times so I used my Seal-Mate doohickey to see what I could find. It continued to leak for a few more weeks but never more than a few drops.
Took it out for a good-n-aggressive Italian tune-up and it stopped dripping. That was a couple of years ago.
Still dry after 3,000 miles.
I need to do the Steveford trick mentioned above just to have something to do on the bike since its decided to cost me absolutely nothing in parts or labor for the past several years. I don't know why its been soooo reliable, enjoyable and trouble free. Hmmmmm (chin scratch) Oh well, must be lucky.
