Where should the idle be on the XB9 bikes? Mine sits right around 900rpm. When I started it today it ran for a bit then died, sounded like it was lugging a bit from the idle being to low. I restarted it and it ran fine from then on with the idle around 900 rpm. If the idle needs to be up a bit where is the adjuster located? (Yes, I plan to get a service manuel very soon.) | ||

If you are looking at the bike from the front, on the right side of the front wheel next to the air intake on the left is the idler adjuster. | ||

It should be adjusted to about 1050. Make sure it's warmed up completely when you adjust it. | ||

What M1 said, and make sure it's not higher than that. I know the manuals says 1050-1100, but 1100 is too high (at least on my bike it was). Rpms will drop too slow and get stuck at 2000 or so for a couple of seconds. | ||

Explain to me if the idle screw is simply a clockwise-counter clockwise adjustment. My XB12R (2 months old) seems to resist turning by hand. THanx, Tom} | ||

looking towards the back of the bike clockwise makes the engine speed go up. I use an allen wrench and keep it in my jacket pocket. Since I got the TPS reset and static timing checked I have not had to change it in the last 2000 miles though. The first 5000 miles or so on the bike will see things changing around a bit to really break in all the parts. After that assuming the timing and TPS is right it shouldn't change a whole lot unless some problem occurs. |
