I would like to send out a big THANK YOU to all of you that have answered my questions. I am completely hooked on the BadWeB! Now it seems like every S1 that catches my eye is sold before I can respond. Are there ANY suitable bikes out there? Well I guess a black S1W is a just pipe dream but a nice black S1 or a white & blue S1W with just a few mods would fit the bill nicely. I'm thinking that a twin tail is going to be needed so I can at least give my wife one ride, otherwise I won't get the OK to buy. I figure one ride on one of these beasts will be all she can handle. Also, what should I expect to pay for a S1 with aftermarket exhaust and a forcewinder? How about a S1W similarly equipped? I've seen quite a large difference in prices on both bikes. I would really like to ride one before I buy, so if there are any for sale in the CA central valley, let me know... |

I have a black 96 S1 which I planned to sell after buying an S3, which could more easily accommodate two up riding. The problem was that every time I looked at the S1 I just couldn't let it go. Personally, the 96 S1 is my favorate. I like the smaller tank of the original S1s as opposed to the S1W. The 96 also uses a better front motor mount than any of the later years. The gauges and swingarm carrier are also the same as the S2. I also had a Twintail on it and use to take my wife on day trips with it. The twintail itself was not really adequate, but after installing a Corbin seat we were able to take multi sate rides (although the S3 was ultimately much better for that). Good Luck |

The X1 has a lot of subtle improvements, but is still a big ugly pig of a bike. FI is not infallable...and I'd prefer a carb. It's a matter of electronic simplicity over mechanical. Sample both, they have many similarities are but are very different. Check out Cycle Trader online...that'll give you a good idea of what people are asking. Check out Motorcycle Consumer News and that'll tell you what people are getting. '96 S1's have a few differences that I believe make them the best...but '98's do have the Thunderstorm heads. |

There's what looks to be a very nice S2 that somebody just posted in the classified section here. Might be worth considering. |
