As I mentioned in another post (http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/817111.html?1508644966) I probably have a broken wire between the ignition switch and the key switch relay, and it most likely broken in that loom that goes around the left fork. I've been there before, fixing a broken wire that feeds the clock and the trip odometer when the ignition is off. That time I put that plastic cover back up, stuffing both the loom and the two throttle cables under it. I sense it could've been my mistake. So my question is this: would you route the loom and the cables under that plastic cover or just leave the cables and the loom free hanging, possibly just loosely holding them with a zip-tie? I've seen posts (that I can't find anymore) where it seems they did just that. Thank you. |

I had a similar problem a few years ago. After I repaired the broken wires and taped up the bundle, I re-installed the plastic guide over the throttle cables using only the top bolt. Then I zip tied the wire bundle to the guide and lug where the bottom bolt had been removed. So now the wire bundle runs outside the guide and can move around a bit without getting bent over the guide. No problems in that area since then. |

Thanks Refurb, I just finished the job. It was indeed the wire from the ignition switch to the key switch relay. I did remove the guide completely and loosely zip-tied the cables to the opening where the bolts were before. The bundle of wires is now a free floater, but I like your idea and, although I have already put everything back together, I may still be able to run a zip-tie around it and connect it to the zip-tie that runs around the cables. Although even as a free floater that bundle doesn't seem to move too too much. |
