It's one of 5 tagged/insured/regularly ridden Buells in the garage...*I* get plenty of miles, each bike stays pretty low. |

Put 3rd battery in my '09 in May. Had been having problems with cooling fans not coming on. Good now. Though the disconnecting of battery may have reset something. Bike has 55,800 miles on it. Got new belt on today. that's number 2. |

9 years and 27,500 miles on the original battery. I changed it out only a few weeks ago, and frankly it never failed. I got a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO 4) battery. Holy sh*t is it cool. (and incredibly light) |

http://products.batterytender.com/Batteries/240-CC A-Lithium-Engine-Start-Battery.html "Up to 80% lighter than Lead Acid Equivalent" I didn't think much of this when I read it, but when it was in my hand I thought, "This feels kind of cheap." But no, it's just really fscking light. Also the size is a lot smaller than our battery box. I ended up zip-tying it in. It worked well and is quite stout, now. |

Nice. I did a product search on the battery tender website a couple weeks ago and it said they didn't have a battery for Buells. I didn't take the time to actually look at the sizes and specs. I just downgraded from Shorai to HD AGM. The shorai sat too long and died and was unrevivable. No kidding about the weight difference. The AGM is a behemoth. But HD batteries are maybe the best brand of AGM and I know it will serve me for the better part of a decade, so long as I ride it on the regular. |

I have said this before, but I will repeat it for those not so well informed. Lithium batteries are NOT suitable for any motor vehicle because they hate cold. At anything below 10 C, the storage capacity falls off drastically. Secondarily, The charging and discharging must be monitored and controlled by management software, none of which is usually available for vehicles. Lastly, if perfectly managed and used only in the temperature range of 10 to 35 C, a Lithium battery will typically last about 5 years. Violating those rules will kill the battery in short order. It is very hard to beat the performance of an AGM lead acid battery. This is especially true if a battery tender is continually employed. |

A lot of people use them without issue. I did for a couple seasons without any issues. Probably safe to bet that virtually every serious race bike runs lithium. I see your point though. If I knew I was going to ride in freezing temps, I wouldn't want to rely on Li. |

It is not just a usage issue, Li batteries do not charge well below 10C either. However, they are useful in a race application because of the huge weight savings, but after usage, they should be removed from the bike, bought indoors and placed on an appropriate Li charger designed specifically for that battery. |

Yes Li batteries are sensitive to temperature but all EBR bikes came with a Shorai Lithium battery. The only thing that needs to be done is the cells should be balanced periodically or if bike will be stored for more than a couple weeks, and this has to be done with the Shorai Battery Management System. |
