I had to replace my muffler cable and after I was done, Cable felt tight. Like it was pulled all the way at rest. I ran the servo test and it didn't move. So I took the cable off of the motor and tried the test again and it still didn't move. So I took it off the bike and opened it up to see if there was carnage. Nope! It seemed to fail while pulled all the way out and then froze in place. Anyone have a motor fail like that? Just to be sure, I checked the continuity of the black wire to ground and the fuse. Both fine. Seems like the motor is crapped out without any broken gears. |

When mine went bad, the gear teeth all looked good. It seems like there are lugs on the side of one gear that are supposed engage in another gear (or something like that). |

If you were able to take it apart then it has screws in it. That's the old style. The new ones are riveted together. They're not cheap but the new ones don't seem to fail |

Mine is the original 2008 model. I thought the changeover was prior to that. I'll budget for a new servo soon I guess. I just assumed that the failure mode was the gears snapping or something. My motor seems fine. It must be the driver B.S. connected to it. It looks like a standard mabuchi motor but says honeywell. I would love to be able to fix this thing but it sems like the shaft is swaged onto the cable puller so I can't figure out a way of getting it apart without a dremel. It pains me to send a thing to the trash since I have the ability to rework surfacemount stuff but it did last 50K miles so I really can't bitch too loudly. |

I think someone posted a repair, with pictures (for the lugs on the side of a gear?). I tried to search for that posting, but couldn't find it. I had already replaced mine, before I saw that post, so didn't try it. |
