So, I did a little checking on the darkside idea. I cut up two tire; a car tire and a motorcycle tire and then took several measurements and then compared both to a car tire rim profile: They are almost identical.

I thought we agreed never to discuss this again?!!? Just kidding.... I agree the profiles look close, the motorcycle tire seems to fit the car rim very well. I'd be curious to see the fit on a motorcycle rim, since you can see the car tire extends all the way to the bead, while the motorcycle tire only goes about 2/3-3/4 of the way. I assume if the bead of the rim is closer on the motorcycle tire, the car tire would have a hard time fully seating. That portion of the tire is a lot thinner where it comes to that point though, so maybe it's flexible enough that it'll just conform to the shape of the motorcycle rim. |

Yep, my thoughts exactly. I have to stop by the scrap yard and grab a motorcycle rime for the next round of testing. Up close it looks like a perfect match though. |

So what are the plans inside your head Putting a sidecar on the X1 and using car tires? |

Realistically I just want to mount a car tire on a sport bike so that I can satisfy my curiosity about weather or not it can be done, and how it handles. I've seen it on cruisers with good results so I am really just more curious than anything. As well, I've not seen anyone compare cross sections before and or take measurements; I'm glad to have that under my belt. I do want a side car though, maybe if I find a nice one some day. |
