2007 XB1200SST converted to Ulysses tail. 28000 miles. Running the interstate at in 5th at 80 - 85 MPH and about 4200 - 4500 RPM the check engine light flashes and engine loses power and sputters. Reducing speed to below 75 light goes out and engine smooths. Bring up the power again and same scenario. Went back roads but kept RPM consistent using lowered gear resulted in same scenario. Confirmed exhaust valve was full open at high RPM. I put 12000 miles on before this problem started. Is there a catalytic converter that might be partially plugged? Thanks. |

Flashing check engine light means the engine is overheating, the bike will "skip spark" which makes it so the rear cylinder only fires every other time to reduce engine temperature. It could be just your engine temperature sensor failing, but it could be an actual cooling issue like fan no longer keeping up or some other obstruction. |
