Hi all, I'm a bit new with Buell, only been using a 2008 1125r for a couple of months. She is in daily use, so fa no major issues (bulb change, lost sidestand spring). Just been thru an oil change, no issues. The readings on the coolant temperature started to be weird 2 days ago after been stuck in traffic and the temperature went up to 95 degree celsius. The problem: Some warming up before start, temperature start going up from 66degrees, then i start riding. With slow running it start going up nicely, but when speeding up it starts going down step by step, the same speed it was going up. and end up saying cold. Today morning there was a bit higher traffic and it went up to 84 then traffic cleared up, I speeded up to 140km/h the temp got a big drop back to 71 then started to go down slowly and back to cold. Checked the oil level - correct, no sign of water Checked the coolant level - correct, no air bubbles coming out Tried to move the cables of the ECT but could really get close to it even after removing the air box base plate. (End well not much further would i go in a parking lot) Any suggestions what can cause this? |

Are both fans firing up and if so at what temp is each one coming on? |

Both fans firing up, if I'm not mistaken around 78ish. The problem is that they don't come up unless the ECT tells them to. So pretty much I'm relying on the wind. It kind of seems to be connected to rpm, when I speed up, the temp starts to go down. |

Mr. Magyar any trouble codes? P0112, P0113 = Intake Air sensor (IAT) P0117, P0118 = Engine Coolant (ECT) P0691, P0692 = Right fan control P0693, P0694 = Left Fan Control Service Manual Values Key ON, Fan On 77 Deg C, Fan Off 71 deg C Key OFF, Fan On 87 deg C, Fan Off 76 deg C to troubleshoot sensors you will need a Digital Volt/Ohm Meter (DVOM) Suggest you change coolant first ...the bike only has a 2.8 liter capacity...old coolant will not transfer heat efficiently...the coolant might be 10 years old!... Here in Southern California, I run Distilled Water with Water Wetter...you may want to try that first before you spend money on coolant (anti-freeze) HTH (Hope This Helps)(remember to turn off the bike with the "Kill Switch" other wise the alarm system will drain the battery on 2008 bikes) sok szerencsét (Message edited by nuts4mc on June 08, 2017) |

Thank you for the suggestions! Yesterday on the way home she acted normal, temp went up to 80-82 and stayed there. On the way today to work seemed to be the same. Conditions 36 degrees outside very humid in the evenings. Morning 40 degrees dry. Only highway, speed 140km/h. Did a little test in the morning. Speeded up until 170, 6-7000rpm, temp dropped drastically, went back to cold, then it slowly went up to 70-71degrees but not higher. I start to think that it is the Tstat stuck open. Just had an oil change at 27000km, will have a full service at 30000 with an oil change again (for like a shorter cleaning period), I will have the coolant changed as well. Right now I live in Dubai so anti-freeze won't be necessary XD On the instrument there is only one trouble - side stand sensor - lost the spring somewhere on the way, so it is a manual hook up system, with the sensor disconnected. Haven't been on comp lately, will pass by an HD service to check. Always using the kill switch Thanks/Koszi (Message edited by dante on June 09, 2017) |

Sounds like thermostat is stuck open.Had a friend have to tape up the radiator inlets at the track because his bike would not come out of warm up mode.I believe the faster you go the cooler these bikes run and a new thermostat fixed his problem. |

Thanks! I think I'll get it changed with the 30000kms big service. |
