I bought this bike in October of 2016,has about 12k on the clock, rebuilt salvage title (can't find any obvious damage) I've been slowly collecting parts to give it some much needed love and have almost everything needed to complete it. It's was in pretty rough shape- didn't run (carb cables were swapped around and it wasn't seated into the intake very good) I sorted out those issues and rode the bike around the block an hour after getting it home. Paint was a flat black spray bomb job that looked hideous. I've always like the s1's for the short tail section- this bike however had the twin tail setup. |

The front fender was broken- I purchased one off eBay that was listed to be an original s1 fender- the pics on the auction were of a buell tube frame- when the fender arrived the one they sent was actually for an xb- I sent them pics, they acknowledged it was their mistake and gave me a refund letting me keep the xb fender. I really wanted this bike to have the solo tail. That is the main reason I've always loved the s1. I stumbled upon a nice, custom painted s1 for sale on Facebook. The owner listed in his ad that he had another complete set of plastics for the bike- I messaged him inquiring about the extra body work- ended up getting it super cheap and the guy even shipped it to me. The tank has a couple small bubbles. I gotta say I was surprised at The quality of it. (Message edited by knuckleduster271 on June 05, 2017) (Message edited by knuckleduster271 on June 05, 2017) |

Back in January I found a guy parting out a buell xb9s on Facebook. I struck a deal buying the wheels, forks, triples, front brake setup and a complete running engine. I had to drive almost to Chicago to get it but the price was right. I found a bad webber with a complete x1 swinger for sale

The forks had a bad seal- I picked up some Mobil atf and a seal kit. Finished those up a little bit ago. I ordered a kit from engineered velocity to adapt the xb triples and rear wheel to the tuber. Still have to drop the triple off to have the new stem pressed in. Also ordered a bronze oil pump drive gear and a Yamaha r6 1/6 throttle tube. Some rental "road" handlebars. Not sure if I like the high bend or not, I might end up sending them back.

I got the proper rear pulley and a set of xb cams marked for use in a tuber- (thanks ross!) Xb engine disassembly- heads are at the machine shop getting new valve stem seals and the holes drilled and tapped to hang a breather on them. The xb9 pistols are at the machine shop as well getting .040 knocked off the domes

Huge thanks to brotherinbuells for his rear plate/tail lamp mount template. I needed this as the ones for the twin tail section are different. I made this one, however I think I'm going to revise it.

Looks like you have a nice build going on. Should look sweet when you get her back together! I went through a similar process with my 96 Only advice is do everything you want the first time otherwise you will do it again. Before
After
After crash rebuild 2

You're making some good progress on that thing! The new bodywork and air filter really cleaned it up. Did you end up getting the correct front fender? I see one in the pictures, but wasn't sure if that was the old cracked one, or if you got a new one with the rest of the bodywork you got. I know I've seen one or two people on here make brackets and fit an XB front fender on the tuber forks. In my opinion the tuber fender looks much better, but it's always an option. Feel free to send that old bodywork my way! No point in it going to waste Love the supermoto. I had a street legal yz426 sumo with the yz450 bodywork/tank/subframe/seat on it. Probably the most fun I've ever had on a bike. Unfortunately it had to go so I could pick up something a little better for my commute. I sold it to a friend so I know it's still in good hands. |

Also, if you're undecided on the bars you picked, I use some Renthal Streetfighter bars on mine(without the crossbar), and they're a great fit. The rise is a bit more shallow, I'd recommend them. |

Not sure if your looking to sell them, but I would be interested in the old 2up seat, my S1W came with a Corbin which is great but I would like to get it as close to stock as possible. I would take the the fairing too I have a friend who is looking for the fairing so will take both if you want to part with them. Thanks |

Thats a sharp lookin bike s1 owner- i bet that was a job fitting that swingarm on there. I did get a front fender with the extra set of body work i bought. Since im using the xb forks i'll end up fitting the xb front fender that i got free from ebay. I agree the tuber fender is alot nicer.. The supermoto is a riot. Its put an all out assault on my driving record haha. As farbas the bars go i went ahead and mounted them this evening along with the xb forks, triples, wheel etc. Ill give em a try, they're not as high looking at them on the bike Id consider letting go of the twin tail set uo- considering baldwin wants $550 to make me a new seat. The fairing had a crack in it wben i bought it. I took it to a body shop here in town and had it "plastic welded" it will need paint. The seat is in pretty good shape. Has a couple very small spots on the cover- if i were to keep it id have it recovered. |

A little more progress today. New renthal bars, r6 throttle conversion and some $20 shorty eBay levers I used velocity engineering's kit to adapt the xb stuff. It was pretty easy- press the old stem out of the xb trees, press the VE stem in its place. Then add your existing steering neck bearings. I found it best to put the bearings in a toaster oven and the triple trees in the freezer makes it alot easier |

Make sure you really check the Chinese brake lever right where it hits the plunger. Mine put a very small amount of pressure on the plunger but just enough after 20 min of riding my brakes locked up from heat build up!!! Needed to file of 1/16"!!!! |

Funny you mention that- When I got the front end setup the stock lever was broken- I replaced it with the Chinese lever and there's no brake pressure. I've bled and bled it, hooked a vacuum pump up to it- still nothing. I almost wonder if when the oem lever was broken that it didn't hurt the master cylinder.. If that's the case it's getting a brembo radial as a replacement. |

The bars look good. The S1 does a good job of hiding bar height because of the way the gauges and flyscreen are mounted over the bars. It makes them look a little lower than they are. Any better pictures of your plate/light bracket? I plan on remaking mine someday so I can try to make a sort of undertail that runs all the way back to the oil tank, to try to keep as much crap from getting throw up there when the roads are wet. I've been planning on getting some of those levers for a while. I've always just bought the cheap ones off of ebay and never had a problem. I did have to file down the brake lever I had on my old XB just like S1owner said. Only took a couple minutes and when you know what to look for, it's pretty obvious what needs done. I wouldn't be surprised if when the brake lever broke, if it jammed the piston in so hard it messed up one of the seals inside. Mine had some issues when I got it(still does). I tried to buy a rebuild kit and apparently they don't exist, so replacing yours with a radial might be the best way to go. I had pretty good luck on the supermoto. I think cops would see it and just assume you were some middle aged guy on a dual sport an didn't really give it a second look. I find the same to be true on the Buell, because they hear the Harley sounds coming, and it doesn't make the hairs on the back of their neck stand up like when they hear an inline 4 coming, so they don't usually pay too much attention to me. |

Not much in the way of progress, ive been doing some research on swingarm removal so i can swap the x1 swingarm over. I did get the front master to bleed finally. It was the china brake lever- where the arm actautes the piston was too long and it was keeping constant pressure on the master. I took the broken stub that was in it and ground the arm on the Chinese lever to match, seems to have done the trick. As far as pics of the light bracket, the one thats on there is kinda crude and i want to add sognal mounts, i used thinner gauge steel than what i should have so its not as strong as id like. I did stop by a fab shop and picked up a sheet of 16 ga yesterday and some blades for my jigsaw. Ill post up some pics when i build the next one here pretty soon. |
