Hey y'all! So I just put a new PR4 front tire on my 1125 at a friend's house, and on the way home I realized I didn't balance this new tire. It rode fine up to 80mph with nothing concerning happening. So is it a necessity to balance the front tire? I can get it done but I'd rather not hassle with it if I don't have to haha. Thanks! 80 mph! Try shifting up through the other five gears and see if there is any vibration in the 150 range! If you do not get any vibrations at the speeds you typically ride at, you should be okay. I know some riders that never get their tires balanced and are okay with it. | ||

The last several sets of Michelins I've installed have required no additional weights. That said, I did balance the wheel without the tire and haven't needed to add or subtract any weight with the Michelins. (Message edited by pwillikers on March 28, 2017) | ||

I would not consider mounting a new tire without checking the balance. It simply makes no sense not to check. The wheel is already off the bike and most shops have a balancer anyway. Remember not all new tires are round. I have seen a few that are really lumpy. | ||

FWIW, I had a rear tire mounted on my '09 CR about a year ago, maybe longer... At any rate, the shop's Snap-On spin balancer wouldn't take the Buell rear wheel. It hasn't been a problem to me yet... | ||

At least balance the front - (with the disc on - weights go on the disc side of the wheel). | ||

You MUST balance both front and rear tires I had serious vibration once on the front end from an unbalanced front tire. Until I realized what the problem was, my steering head bearings were damaged had to be replaced... | ||

I just replaced my front tire and they put balance beads inside instead of weights on the outside. Looks better and no vibes at all. | ||

I just pulled the old ones (Avon Storm), left the balancing weights in place, smacked in some new bearings, levered on some new Avon Storms, pumped them up and rode off. Been over 110 mph with no issue. The new tires (the old ones didn't either but they may have worn off) didn't have a balance dot or indicator of any type. Maybe I'm lucky but that is the third time I've levered on my own tires and not balanced them with no issue to just above 100mph. |
