Sorry for another thread but... I'm working on an S1W, the owner wants to use the Twin Tail body work instead of the "thong" seat.. I need to fabricate the Twin Tail bracket, I know I'll never find one.. A while back Mees (Brother_in_buells) posted a pic on a template he used to make one from sheet metal. Ken, (S1Owner) you also chimed in. I really need that template or a Twin Tail bracket to use as a pattern. If someone has one floating around they can spare for a short while, I'd really appreciate an assist... Brad |

Mees; I did find that one before I posted.. Got me to pondering fabricating one.. Jolly, If you have one that would be great, even better if you wanted to part with it. If not, I'd get it back to you as soon as I could. This is for the S1 roller I picked up from Fireman Jim long ago. I put a 2002 X1 motor in it (converted to carb). Actually built it for my neighbor, his son has now taken a fancy to it.. It need a bit of TLC after all these years. I had a death match with exhaust studs this weekend but won. A topic for another thread. Tig welder and oxy torch to the rescue... woot! Brad |

Brad If you get the part and need to make a new one. I have the 4 ft metal brake. And band saw to cut it snd bend it. You can then tig it together. Would be a good thought to make a template with measurements as I am sure this will come up again |

I made the solo tail light brackets from 3mm alloy ,the twin tail bracket could be made from alloy to ,but steel is maybe better workable for the diy. Only the rimple piece in the twin tail bracket is something to think about. |

Maybe this person still has the twin tail bracket and wants to sell it or lent it to you!? http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/796665.html?1481507656 |

Damn Ken, wish I knew you had the break! Now I know! You probably told me but I forgot.. Jolly has one so I'll wait for his response. Ken, I like the idea of making a pattern. If I can do it on a CAD or create an accurate PDF we would be able to send it to anyone that needs it. I think I'll do the first one out of steel. I'm thinking 16 - 18 gauge. As was mentioned in one of the threads, it's not so much to support the seat as to hold the license plate and blinkers. This S1 has a eliminator on it already, I may have to work around that. |

I'm sure I have one in a box, be happy to loan it out for pattern, however, since I still have the twin tail set up I'm not looking to sell it. I'm traveling for work so give a few days to get home and look for it. |

I'd love to see some of the motorcycle parts you've made with the small lathe and milling machine. Those two are at the top of my list of things I need to get someday. |

I just got the mill used it yesterday to cut a nice channel for wiring in my license plate bracket it worked sweet. The lathe I turned a stem, and I turned bar mirror inserts down from 1" to 7/8 and made a few spacers. Not done alot on the lathe but I now have tooling so it will help. Purpony does most of my complex work! English wheel and planishind hammer I have made a fender a couple cafe rear humps some curved windscreens etc. As far as metal work I am a master installer of hand formed metal roofs and gutters. None of that machine made stuff All hand formed and soldered copper, steel, tin, and Aluminum. |

Next spring after tax time I'm hoping to use some of the money to pick up an early 90's gsxr for a streetfighter project, and once that's done I'd like to pick up an old Yamaha xs650 to pull apart and rebuild as something new. It'll definitely make life easier if I can pick up a mini mill and one of those 7x10 lathes for random parts. Someday after that's all done the S1 will get a turn for a rebuild. That 4' bending brake would've been nice! I'm in the process of making some mounting brackets for a bed extender for the truck out of 1/8th stainless that needed bent to about 52°, and it's definitely been making me work for it haha. |

Harelyms, You don't need a bracket for the solo, just pull the twin tail bracket off and your set to go. Jolly, I'll take you up on your offer. I'll get it back to you as soon as I get a good template made up. There will certainly be other that need it in the future. I'll PM you with my address and such. Thanks tons! Brad |

"Harelyms, You don't need a bracket for the solo, just pull the twin tail bracket off and your set to go." Mine is a solo tail and I still have some kind of bracket mounted under there. You still need something to bolt the tail light and turn signals to. Ken: Looking good! My original thought was to make something small as a commuter. I used to have that speed triple, and between barely being able to use any of that monster of a motor, and reaching for the ground in all of the traffic/redlights, I was thinking it'd be nice to have something where I can just relax with both feet on the ground, and a motor that'll actually let me twist the throttle every now and then(plus the 650 just has such a great looking engine), so I think that bike will be a good start. I think chopping those things up irritates the XS purists the same way we hate seeing tubers get chopped up, but in my opinion, there are and will continue to be yamahas everywhere so I won't feel bad about taking a grinder to one and seeing what I can come up with. |
