I'm running a Buell factory race ecm that was mapped for their HMF exhaust system. I would like to go back to the stock exhaust and keep a race ecm, however EBR has advised that the fuel and spark map on that ecm are matched to the HMF and won't work well on the stock exhaust. 1. For any Buell ECM mapping experts out there, Is the Buell Race ECM for a HMF exhaust THAT different than the Buell Race ECM mapped for the stock exhaust? Will I experience adverse running conditions by retaining the HMF Race ECM? 2. Can I remap the HMF ECM with a Race map for a stock exhaust? Thanks, DB (Message edited by Desert_bird on December 10, 2016) |

1. The HMF is a free-flowing glass pack and the stock is chambered. It would be super rich if you ran race ECM on stock exhaust. Not good for spark plugs. 2. Yes you can remap the ECM with TunerPro. You can find stock firmware on ecmspy.com..www.ecmspy.com. B3R1D and B3R3D are the two race firmwares. I would locate a stock ECM or just a regular race ECM for stock exhaust. I would keep the HMF-tuned Buell Race ECM and just buy a stock ECM. You'll have a lot better chance getting decent money if you sell the HMF and have the matching ECM to go with it. The latest factory tune (as of 2010) was pretty decent--I might be in the minority, but I didn't think an aftermarket ECM was really justified while running the stock exhaust. |

That's a good consideration. A used stock ECM is around $90. Figure another $30-$50 to have a dealership update that to the 2010 map. For $75 EBR said that they will flash the HMF Race ECM with their Race map for a stock exhaust. I assume that their Race ECM is a bit more aggressive than the stock map. The difference in price is negligible. I should just keep the HMF setup but it is just too darn loud. (Message edited by Desert_bird on December 14, 2016) |

If you can borrow a cable from someone local (same cable used on XBs and 1125s) and have access to a laptop you could do it for free. TunerPro is an option but if it's a matter of backing up existing and flashing new then I would use ECMRead for Mono since its fairly small foot print app and doesn't require a lot of configuration. |

I have a race ecm for stock exhaust on my 1125R, and compared to the latest OEM flash it still is quite a bit different. Lots of little tweaks vs stock including the idle control, the race ECM does better below 4k RPMs too. The last OEM flash isn't bad, I ran that until the race ECM was available, but have been very happy with the bike since swapping to race. Personally I'd spend the $75 for EBR to reflash it. You can do it yourself for free if you have the software and cable like said above, but if your new program isn't from the same firmware version it complicates things, so EBR reflashing would be the easiest option. |
