First off, putnam park in greencastle IN, is a truly amazing track, and I am amazed at how much I progressed throughout the day, simply amazing.. Oh yea, and whoever said a XB cant hang with most of the rice bikes on a track is full of it(with the exception of the liter bikes on the straights, but get em in the corners and we can real em in)... Now for the "but", when I get on the front brake pretty hard... i am getting quite a bit of vibration, is this normal "brake fade" or the notorious warped rotor? Also, I was really "all over" my bike(more so than I have ever been), and toward the end of the day, I noticed some "jumpy" behavior, especially while warming up the tires and going easy on it(~4000rpm) - but once fully warmed up and running 5-7k rpm, it seemed to be fine...? TPS? Hopefully I didnt break her... Dustin |

Doubt you broke her. Congrats on your first track day. It took me a week to settle down from my first. It is wayyy too additive. I get that vibration deep into hard floggings too. I've never been able to figure it out. I'm probably due for a new rotoer soon, and I hope to try some aftermarket brake pads at that time. Anyone else had this problem during track days? Anyone else have any ideas or suggestion for pads? Could it be glazed pads? |

My XB9 grabs way too hard too, going to have that fixed this winter whatever it is. I thought it was normal ZTL behavior until I rode my XB12, which is smooth as glass and never scares the out of me like the 9 does braking before a corner. So yes, something is wrong, it seems to be common, but I don't know the cause. All I know is that not all XBs do it so it should be correctable. |

What tires are ya'll using? I'm runnin' M1s right now, and they make a world of difference. The only time I've noticed what you're describing is when my front tire needs to be changed. |

I run Diablos, but it's definitely the brake. Did the same thing with the Dunlops. |

That sucks. Shred had the "bad rotor shake". Never went away until he bought a new wheel and rotor. Hope you don't have to go that far to get it right. |

I hope I don't have to go that far. |

I have the same on my 12. My theory is that when you get the rotor very hot the area around the holes expands at a different rate. I have noticed a difference in surface on the trailing edge of each hole. I cleaned than up somewhat with a cross-hatch using emery paper last time I replaced the pads. The took care of it for a while, but now it's back. xboltl2 |

Dbenj It is quite a rush ain't it. glad ya stayed up right and had a good time. the shake on hard braking can be due to tires and/or a warped rotor. my 9 had it and the rotor replace ment took care of it. if the tps is off you'd notice all the time, so I wouldn't worry about that. so now that your addicted are ya going back in the spring time. BTW go in to the shop and talk to Jeff stevens ( the owner) of the bloomington store. He is a a heck of a sportbike guy , in fact he just got back from vegas doing the freddie spencer racing school and if you have tech questions talk to joe stines in service, he's the tech for the race team. since your's truely ain't there anymore, or just call me. |

Thanks Bubba... I am running M1's and they held up great throughout the day, I might try to pick up a new rotor, and a set of aftermarket brake pads... So i can shred it up this spring, hell there is a track day at Road Atlanta sometime mid-november that I might have to make a little trip out of. also I might try to replace the spark plugs, they might be the source of the problem... i took off the air scoop and noticed that the plugs on the bike are harley 6### somethings... ? Thanks again Dustin |

Try the Harley 10### somethings instead. Your XB will be glad you did. |

Was the shudder something that appeared later in the day and hasn't come back, or is it still there? It may be the head set thing that has happened to just about everyone here. I had the shudder under braking and it got worse. Took it in and had them re-torque everything up front and voila...no head shake! |

Wait, your plugs are 6### something?? Definitely wrong. They should be the 10R12A, or possibly the 10R12 (pre-A plug). The 6R12 is used in evo sporsters and twin cam motors. The 6R12 was used in some of the early tube framed bikes, but there was a bulletin advising that they all be switched to the 10R12. |

The correct recommendation is in the thread above your last one. No Harley-Davidson dealer to get them near you? Call Daves and he'll ship the CORRECT plugs to you and you'll even save 10%. |

I had a problem with the front end vibrating/jumping during hard braking. It went away and hasn't returned after I tightened my steering head bearing. I had tried to do it about three times and it didn't work. I was not loosening the bolts nearly enough the first times. After I loosened the bolts almost all the way, then tightened up the steering bearing, then retightened everything again it was wonderful. |

Haven't noticed any headshake, shuddering of the front end when hard braking at the 3 track days I attended this season. The rotor turned quite a dark colour after the last one though - cleaned it up with some brake cleaner. As for the rough running engine, the only time I experienced this was when I did not warm up the engine sufficiently before heading out on the track a few times (maybe twice). Other than that, she ran like a cat on fire! Oh, and just so all you boys living in the hot zone can have a good laugh...there's about 6 inches of SNOW on the ground here in Edmonton!!!!!! And to think, I was attending a track day last weekend...go figure?!?! |

Get yourself some lrb pads, scuff the rotor,(if it's not warped), and you'll be amazed how much better you can brake!LRB 1800 400-9490 |

On the subject of warped rotors- I ran across this article last week: http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/warped_rotors_myth.htm Basically, the guy claims to have never seen a "warped" rotor in many years of auto wrenching. He claims the problem is caused by uneven deposition of the brake pad material on the rotor. Sounds plausible to me- I've been fighting "warped" rotors on a Volvo auto for 2 or 3 years now, and I'm beginning to think this is what it is. |
