Looking for a little bit of information from all of the experts on here. Hoping one of you can help me get my 2006, all stock, Buell XB12X Ulysses back up and running. Bike lost power one day and seized up. I tore it down to diagnose and pinned the problem down to a broken spring and dropped valve. Obviously the spring and valve will need replacing, as will the piston now that it's got a big smiley face stamped on it. Looking for one, part numbers, as I'm struggling to determine what fits and what doesn't (Harley interchangeable, etc.) and don't want to buy the wrong stuff and two, suggestions regarding how far I should go with the repairs. I'm trying to do this on the cheap and therefore am tempted to test the rear cylinder's compression and just address the front cylinder issues with replacement parts and a pro shop's inspection of the cylinder head. However, a little voice in the back of my head (the one that hasn't a clue how little cash is in the budget) is telling me that I should do valves, springs, piston and rings in both cylinders and have both heads professionally inspected... and / or send both heads out, buy a 1250 kit and be done with it. Is it foolish of me to only address what's broken and not attack the rear cylinder while I'm in there?... I'd certainly love to be able to save the money but don't want to be right back at this in another couple miles. Bike currently has just under 20k on it. Thanks in advance for any input. I sent my heads to Pammy at CycleRama. They will clean them up, inspect everything, do any necessary porting, replace what needs to be replaced, and include the right gasket kits and send them back. Money well spent. I don't have facts or experience to back this up, but if it were me, I would be worried about the rods, crank, cams, cam bushings, and crank bearings if I had a top end failure like that. Others can opine if I am being paranoid. |

Reepicheep, Thank you for the suggestion. I plan to take the head to Rowe's Cycle which is local to me and Tommy Rowe came highly recommended from people I know in the area. I tore it down and intend to reassemble it myself, that's why I'm looking for part numbers. I'll need to get a piston, rings, valve, springs, etc. in order to put her back together. |

Makes sense. I'd defer the parts for the heads to the people redoing the heads, and just have them bill you, but that's just me. i don't want too many cooks in the kitchen. |
