It seems that many of the 1125's were sold at "firesale" prices when new (the company winding down..etc). And perhaps because of this...today there are nice-looking, lowish-mileage examples for sale relatively inexpensively.

The weight and HP specs are impressive. The engine completely different from the XB's. A most "Buell-like" challenging scoop aesthetic..which isn't easy on the eyes..

From any of you who have owned and ridden both - are they 1125's as fun/enjoyable as seem on paper?

Absolutely.

I have Uly pegs and a Pegasus seat (1" drop, and 1" lift, respectively) on my 1125CR with the factory clubman bars. I would not hesitate to do a 1,000 mile day (again) on the CR instead of a 1,000 mile day (again) on my 06 UlyX.

I'm 6'4", 34" inseam, and over 40. Literally a coin-toss as to which bike to take. Totally different animals...both 1,000% fun.

I owned a CR for about a year that I bought during the fire sale. I just never jelled with it like I did the Uly. It had insanely more power, but it didn't seem "happy" being ridden gently. The Uly engine seems to be equally at home tooling around or being hammered hard. It actually fit me better than the Uly (I'm 5' 8" with a 30" inseam) so that was a plus. The worst thing from a comfort standpoint is that it got even hotter than the Uly when stuck in stop and go traffic. It would barely break 30 MPG compared to 45-50 MPG for the Uly.

After a year I decided I was either going to have to invest in shop and parts manuals and bone up on checking valve clearances, or I needed to pass the CR along to someone else. I chose option B.

It's a different engine in a similarly great frame.
So it'll go like a race horse and handle great doing it, but the 1125 keeps running faster, even after the race to highway speed is over.

I have two XBs, two 1125s, a Blast, a X1, and a 1190SX.

The 1125s are freaking fantastic, and for the price they are unbeatable.

They are fun, have stupid amounts of power, light weight, and sounds awesome.

When the XB starts running out of steam at 100mph, the 1125 is cruising along like it is at idle. I've no joke had it happen where I was following a BMW M3 on a freeway, just cruising in the left lane doing 110mph in top gear like it was nothing, honestly if I didn't look down I'd have no idea we were going that fast. I knew I was moving, but it didn't feel that fast.

They are very comfortable out of the box too. With just a seat swap, I can do 600 mile days on them no problem. I find them to be more comfortable than the Ulysses. My girlfriend prefers the 1125CR when we go riding, something about the seat is more comfortable to her than the Uly too.

I love how they need less maintenance overall than the XBs, with longer service intervals, and less stuff that needs to be adjusted overall. The reliability once you sort out the bad stator/rotor on 09/10 models is fantastic, my waterheads have all been more reliable and less finicky than the airheads.

I enjoy riding them so much that it actually sucked the fun out of riding the XBs. I still putt back and forth to work on my XBs, cause why not, and they still got plenty of day to day power, but when you have a bike that can accelerate from schoolzone speed to well over a ton in a around the length of a bus, everything else seems tame.

Ditto on everything said above.
If it weren't for suspension component interference issues, I would have already converted my CR into an 1125XR and sold the Uly frame and motor on ebay.
If given the choice, I'll ride the 1125 every time. Only exception is when someone wants a ride, then I take them on the Uly.

I bought an 1125R at firesale prices and loved it for the 2 years I owned it. I have just bought an XT as it is a little more "roomy" than the 1125 was, that was perhaps my only issue, it felt very cramped..

I was in poor shape when I test rode one. And it was at low speed. It hurt my back. I'd probably love one now.

Have an '08 Uly XT:




And an '09 CR:




Love both these bikes - - the Uly is the four season daily commuter, the CR gets summer commuting duty and track day use... Have done 800 mile days with both, to me, more enjoyable on the Uly (but quicker on the CR...).

With prices what they are, I'd strongly recommend buying one - - realize parts availability may become an issue, but no issues to date.

YMMV and ride safe.

I own both. Both great bikes. The Uly is my "do everything" bike. I ride it to work daily, use it for running errands, and for frequent 2-up duty.

The 1125R is a well engineered bike, more refined than the Uly in almost every way, but it gets ridden far less. I reserve the 1125 for when I want to go on a fast ride or for a few times a year when I visit a friend with an 1190 so I have a chance at keeping up.
