Installed the Software on Win2000 and connected the dongle to the Buell as instructed. Couldn't get the Com1 port to steadily connect to the Buell ECU. It sometimes connects, but then the Tach reading is way off, more than by 10X. I tried it in another computer (WinXP) with the same result. Bottom line, couldn't get the ECU to connect to the software. I am wondering if the connector is bad or the software has bugs.

Anyone successfully test?

The computer reads:

Part: BUECB060B
Calibration: 31744-99y
Com1: SCM-Connected
Product Name: Buell-EFI
Version # 2.1

I've been fiddling with the software and it appears that there is no way to reset the TPS, although it checks whether the TPS is properly set (pass) or not.

Go to the site and download version 227. The software does have some rough spots but the techs are working hard to fix them. I've been on the phone plenty with these guys and they release the updates every time another bug is discovered.

Also the TPS is reset when you see pass.

Thanks Sam.
TPS reset is very different from recalibrating. There is a definite procedure for it. From what I understand, you just can't recalibrate TPS without going through the established procedure.

Thanks for the info, can ya'll post some more, letting us know how they work? Do they reset the TPS? Are the bugs worked out? Thanks for this. Convinced the wife to let me buy one, just have to come up with the money.

How much can you change on the port settings in the program?

You could try playing with the COM port settings in the device manager.

Is the software written/compiled for windows 2000 and up? Otherwise, try it on a windows 98 machine. I can't believe I'm telling people to use win98, but I know from experience that some communications software have trouble using serial ports on NT/2000/XP.

I really hope these issues get resolved.

Maintaining the connection to the ecm is one condition thats being ironed out.
The tach is out in left field, and I noticed when the software is first installed the TPS value is available to view.
If the connection to the ecm is lost or I exit the program and come back to it later, the TPS value is gone. I then delete the 3 cfg. files and have the software read the ecm again, and the TPS value reappears.
As far as the TPS procedure goes, (quickly)
back the idle screw all the way off the throttle plates, snap the throttle a few times, reset the TPS, turn the idle thumb wheel until TPS reads 5.8, ride the bike to teach ecm, set idle to no more than 1100 rpm.

It appears that setting the FIFO Buffers of COM1 port (Receive/Transmit buffers) to their lowest setting helps to stabilize the connection. The latest version 2.67 (for PC) appears to be a bit more stable, with the tach reading off by about 2X higher, as opposed to 10X higher. The ECM connection still remains a problem.

to expand on the concept of TPS reset: this procedure MUST be done with the throttle plate completely all the way closed. 0.0%, that is the point when the TPS reset command is given.

Download ver. 267 again, it's been updated but the version number did not change. Connection problems were resolved and they also added more values with still more to come.

That's why I'm ordering it!!

If it's currently not working (correctly), it's due to bugs and that will be resolved as new software versions come out. The Technoresearch website lists it as one of the features of the device so it should work be possible.

Thanks Sam - the latest version is stable like you said. No connection problem. I've reset the TPS as follows:
1. Loosen (rotate ccw) the Idle screw until the TPS angle read zero degrees (loosened it further by about 1 turn);
2. Snap the throttle several times to make sure that the throttle is fully closed;
3. Click on the TPS reset button - after several seconds, it returned PASS;
4. Turn the Idle screw until the TPS angle read 5.5 degrees;
5. Check the TPS voltage reading (mine read 1.0V) at closed throttle to see if it's within spec (0.5-1.5volt) - 5.5 degrees coincided with the median (1.0 volt);
6. Check the TPS voltage reading with the throttle fully open (mine read 4.7 Volt), which is within the spec. (3.9-4.9 Volt);
7. Turn on the engine and warm it up to 145 degrees C and check the Tach reading on the bike (the one on the software is still off) - mine was running about 1100-1200, a tad higher. So I backed off the Idle screw until the needle was just hovering beyond 1000RMP mark. The TPS angle changed to 5.3 degrees, still within the spec;
8. Turn off the engine and read the TPS voltage at open and closed throttle positions and see if it's within the spec.
You are done.

Dcmortalcoil,

Thanx man! I'm sure many many many are gonna be happy with that!

Did you have to reset it, or just did it to try it out?

If you had to, did you ride the bike and was it good?

Ingemar.

I just did it to see if it works. When I reset it, the setting was identical to the one before.

Dc,
Thanks for blazing the trail, seems like you know your way around serial communications.

Also seems like TechnoResearch is helping out with the updates, looks like they're coming out daily, how would you rate the tech support?

Is the interface relatively easy to use? Were you able to review/reset ECM codes?

Still waiting for mine to show up

Matt

Matt,

I just happen to be fooling around with the setting. Believe me, although I have an engineering background, I've been only around in a legal setting, in a patent field, so I know very little about the the technical aspect of a serial port. Nonetheless, my engineering curiosity is not too far from me.

I couldn't say much about the tech support because the minute I had a problem, I got a solution from BadWed - much thanks to Sam.

The interface is straight forward. Very easy. But as to the ECM code resetting, I havent't noticed any prompts for it.

What's the deal on 'trimming fuel values'? It's one of the features listed on their website.

I'm really wondering what can be done with it.

Notice that data logging and event triggering on errors AND ecm data can be performed.

Hmmm .... need I say more?
