Hi, I want to make the gears shorter on my x1, i remember having done it in the past on the Uly i had using an xb9 primary flywheel and chain. Would this same change work on an x1, would it be posible to use a sportster 883 be the better option, and any one knows the amount of links the chain would be? Thanks. |

I see you're posting from Spain. If I'm not mistaken, the European models were sold with higher final drive gearing than US market bikes. Maybe just find yourself some US market pullies? 27/61T pullies were stock on US x1's. What have you got on yours? |

The 883, 1203, and the X1 all have the same engine sprocket in the primary. The US model X1 has the 27/61 drive sprockets and the international models have 29/55 drive sprockets. All the models use the same drive belt. If you change to the 27/61 drive sprockets it will help the launch. If you have the 61 on the rear you might already have the 27 in the front. Is your bike a US model? If you PM me your vin I can check. If you change you 1st and second gear in your transmission to the Andrews "S" ratios gears you have a better shift between 1st and 2nd. |

"OLD SCHOOL" gearing explained: 1). If you decrease the number of teeth(chain or belt) on the motor or counter shaft sprockets the gearing lowers ( as in a lower FIRST gear which makes high gear lower )and the opposite occurs with more teeth ... 2). If you put more teeth on the clutch basket or rear wheel sprocket that lowers the gearing and the opposite occurs with less teeth ... Get the gearing correct for your engine so you can use the TORQUE and HORSE POWER that your engine puts out weather it be on TWISTING ROADS or the INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS !!! |

The bike is the international version, it was imported from the UK. Thank you for the info. |

Just a note out there to all you. The last production run of tuber rear rear sprockets where cut wrong. The center holes on the 61 tooth where way to large and the 55 tooth wasn't cut open enough. They scraped all the inventory remaining in the warehouse. So if you have spare sockets made in 2014 double check them and make sure they are correct. We found this out the hard way and about 20 of our sprocket where bad. |

And that, my friends, is the kind of insider information only available on this forum! Thanks Lance |

Thanks Lance, And thanks Buellistic. is it possible to get a 26 tooth counter sprocket? as here in Australia we have lower maximum speed limits probably around 70MPH & they enforce them , also i would like 26 as i still like to bracket race. thanks for any help |

If you refer to the first post i think a xb9 primary from 07 or earlier would work, there is no real difference in the parts just the case is different. |

The XB engine sprockets are 34t on the 9 and 38t on the 12 with the X1 engine sprocket of 35t. I'm not sure if you'll see a big enough gain with one tooth difference. |

If one were to change the final drive ratio to the North america ratio, then the speedo would be wrong. Are the speedometers calibratable? |

If your changing the gear ratio to the US gearing you'll to install an in-line electric speedo interface module. The signal is sent from the sensor to the ECM then the ECM sends it to the speedo. |

"OLD SCHOOL" : On BUELLs with the speedometer on the front wheel there is no problem with changing the gearing on the counter shaft or rear wheel except for the DRIVE BELT or CHAIN LENGTH ... On the later BUELLs that have the speedometer on the transmission the only place you can change the gearing is on the MOTOR SPROCKET which could mean another primary chain !!! |

Is it posible to fit an XB 9 sprocket and chain? |

OLD SCHOOL: When you check the MOTOR SPROCKET teeth on the XB9 it will be a 35-tooth PN 40235-89 ... Same as the TUBE FRAME MODELS and BLAST P3 ... If yo want to increase your gearing to run on the INTERSTATE you can up your gearing to: XB12X MOTOR SPROCKET 38 tooth PN 40290-04 which was $100.00 in 2014 ... "AND" PRIMARY CHAIN PN 40147-04 which was $70.00 in 2014 ... |

I do have in hand an xb12, in thought the X1 shared that same gearing, as i'm going to install the magura clutch and i need some work done on the primary cover I'll have the chance to check the primary gearing. |
