A reprise of an earlier thread on lever compatibility. I desire to put ASV F3 levers on my early S1. Concerned about reading in earlier threads of a possible problem with levers; specifically, drag and lockup. My caliper has the winged horse. There were questions on whether the early calipers (early 96 S1's) would not work. Does anyone have anything definitive on this? I hope to avoid buying the levers and then they do not work, or worse cause an accident. Thanks. The thread I'm referring to http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/740585.html?1401512526 |

It's a matter of the master cylinder, not the caliper. And it's easy enough to find out and to remedy. If the lever is applying pressure to the master cylinder piston at rest, just shave down the actuator on the lever until it has just enough slack not to engage the piston at rest. |

Thanks Ross. I just ran out to check (it is cold out there tonight and lucky to have a warmer garage) What I understand you to say, is the new lever should not pressure the master cylinder piston at rest. Currently, the stock lever is touching the piston but apparently not applying pressure. But I will check that too. Appreciate this, as I had not paid attention to that contact with the piston before. Hoping different/better levers (with adjustments) will help hand fatigue mainly on the clutch with my smaller hands. |
