Based on the circumstances I have read, in my opinion Mike made the right decision. Better to cross traffic and ride it out on the shoulder than to low side under the oncoming vehicle. I had a similar incident with a slippery decreasing radius right hander, both front and rear sliding out from under me and an oncoming dump truck only a few days before Mike's incident. Only difference is I most likely had more of a run off to work with and made it because I was able to use the extra throttle. Amazing how a skilled riders mind works in a high stress situation. Also, am truly pleased with the way my X1 responded to the instant need for radical directional change and controllable power on demand. Not to mention its ability to handle deep loose gravel on the shoulder. I never stopped, I just continued riding on the shoulder until I could reenter the highway. Lots of other bikes that would have failed me in that scenario. Many thanks to Erik Buell for a wonderful bike and best wished to Mike for a speedy recovery. |

Found one more, Mike did a number on this vehicle. I pretty sure it was Mike's leg that hit the car, as Glitch said, the bike was relatively undamaged, a 10 mph drop along uneven surface would've done similar damage (to the bike anyways). It is great to see you are upbeat and ready to ride again. If he could have figured out how to strap his leg to a bike he would have ridden one home from the hospital. |

They're having a hard time finding the accident report because they don't know what jurisdiction to contact. Could someone please help out here. Was it the state police that was there? Were ya'll in TN or NC? If someone has a map would you post it please? Thanks! |

Shady Valley is in Tennesse. He was taken to Johnson City, also in TN. Looking at my computer map, Shady Valley is either in Johnson or Sullivan County. Hope that helps. |
