Glad some of you guys rode some of Buck Creek Gap Road. I'm not surprised it got some damage. Glitch- my mother-in-law is from Marion. She remembers going to dances at the Lake Tahoma Club House. It's a neat looking building. Vegas- it's Caesar's Head. Yea, I've ridden it a couple of times. Did a loop from the Texaco station about 5 miles south, up to Brevard, NC back into SC by a different road, and back over to the Texaco station. It's about as good as it gets in SC. There are some good twisties over in the north west corner of the state above Walhala too. |

Skeeter_xb, Was RT 80 the road (or one of the roads) that wasn't even on your GPS? 1313 |

Glitch- my mother-in-law is from Marion. Wow. We used to spend summers at the lake house. Simpler times indeed. What's her maiden name, I may know her or her kin. I lived in Marion from the time I was three 'til I was sixteen. Small world, although I meet very few people that have even heard of Marion. |

RT 80 was the goat trail paved by the blind that wasn't on my GPS! |

Glitch & Jlnance: My mother-in-law's maiden name was Matilda Sinclair. She's in her late 70's so maybe your parents (grandparents?) or in-laws knew her. She moved to Chapel Hill when she married my father-in-law. Her dad was the dentist in Marion for many years. Marion would be a cool place to live as far as access to great riding roads. I hope to retire to the NC mountains one of these days. |

What was the road on the northern loop which was paved with gravel? |

I hope to retire to the NC mountains one of these days. My folks did just that. After living in Atlanta for twenty years or so they retired and moved to near Mountain Home. Not too far from Asheville. I would love to live in Marion, well maybe back in North Cove anyway, there's just not a good living to be made there. Working in a plant all your life in a way small town can kill a man. My folks just turned seventy, I'll ask next time I talk to them. Dr. Sinclair does sound familiar. |

Whodom - My m-in-law is 73 so she probably knows the family. I'll ask the next time I see her. You certainly can't complain about the roads can you :-) From what I can tell, Marion is a fairly sterotypical small town, with all the good and bad that that implies. It might be a fun place to live. My wife has talked about moving back before. |

From what I can tell, Marion is a fairly sterotypical small town, with all the good and bad that that implies. Sad but true. I moved back home several years ago. Ann hated it, but knew I was home. She never said anything until we moved back to Atlanta, God love 'er. |

I moved back home several years ago. Ann hated it, but knew I was home. She never said anything until we moved back to Atlanta, God love 'er Glitch: I am from South Carolina originally. I worked the sheriff's office that covered I-85 from the state line on into Greenville. I left there about 5 years ago and moved to Vegas. I ended up marrying a girl that is a native LasVegan. When the airline I was working for back then went out of business, we moved to Mobile Alabama. For the 8 months we were there, I thought I was going to have to put her in an asylum! She had never been East of Dallas in her life. For me it was just like being back home. Funny how we seek out "home" no matter where we go in life. |

Whodom: Yep, I have been on a few of those as well. Brevard is beautiful country, especially in the fall. Ya know out there past Walhalla is where "Deliverance" was filmed? I think it is the Chatahootchee or Chatooga river if I am not mistaken. The road that follows along the river in that area makes for a nice ride. |

Vegas: I hope to get a chance to ride up there this fall before it gets cold. Yea, I remember about "Deliverance", it's the Chatooga River. Man, living in Nevada must take some getting used to. I went out a couple of years ago- hard to get used to the almost complete lack of "green", but it is pretty country. Just REALLY different from here. |

Hugh: For sure it is! I miss the heck out of the South at times. I don't think I could pick a favorite, be it the mountains, the Low Country or Myrtle Beach/Charleston areas. One thing that I don't miss in living here is the humidity... ohh yeah, and the mosquitos!

How about the open feeling of the West? You have horizons and can see well through most turns which is something you just can't do in a forest. Those, plus the humidity, mosquitos and winter, are the things I disliked about moving back home to Wisconsin. |

That was 421. Will, the BRAG photographer, set up in that set of turns and we went by him 15-20 times. These shots are with my camera, he got much better shots. |

This was a blind shot I just pointed the camera behind me and I managed to get both Johnnie and Paul in the shot. (Message edited by josé_quiñones on September 30, 2004) |
