My '08 R is leaking from behind the front pulley. I removed the pulley, but the seal has no numbers on it.

I can probably figure out what it is by removing it and measuring the bore and seal surface of the pulley, but if anyone has a commercial part number for it, it would save me some work and would be appreciated.

Google brought up lots of XB seal problems...

TIA,
John

I got the dimensions from searching the part number (X0070.1AMA) at New Castle HD. It is 40X52X7. Not in stock.
I could probably get something through my local NAPA, but the one I removed appears to have an uncommon surface on the primary sealing lip. The rest of the assembly is black rubber-looking, while that lip is orange. It seems that there is a special material integrated into the surface.

I'll see what I can find in the SKF catalog. I'll also check with the local MOCO dealer tomorrow to see if it's a common part or specific to Buell. New Castle doesn't have it in stock, so it may very well be Buell specific.

That number is a Buell part number. Based on that, it should be a Buell specific part.

If it had an H-D style part number it would be - as you say - a common part.

Thanks Dean.
I had already checked both of those sources. New Castle doesn't show it in inventory, and Surdyke doesn't have their inventory online as far as I know.

According to the SKF seal guide I downloaded a while back, the orange color indicates it probably has a silicone lip incorporated into it. Silicone is more compatible with synthetic oils than the more common nitrile lip seals, near as I can tell.

Edited to add:
Thanks 1313. Missed your post while answering a phone call.

They're usually pretty quick about shipping out parts, even when they're not in stock. I forgot to get the sprag clutch idler gear for an 1190rx, ordered it about 10 days ago and was notified it was out of stock. It showed up today.
