Are any of you lubricating your speedometer drive unit? And if so, how are you doing it? There is a clip holding the ring that rotates with the tab, but even taking that clip off, I still cannot get the rotating ring off, nor am I sure that I might break something in doing so. However, there is enough space in removing the clip to possibly push some grease through. Good idea or not? Thanks |

Think of it as a wear item. |

My old Norton had a grease fitting which told me something. I always try and pump some grease in there with a tapered fitting. I'm not sure how successful I am but at least it makes me feel better. I know what you mean about taking them apart! |

Thanks fellows. Steve, I think I will go ahead and try to slip a bit of grease in there also hoping it will retard the wear. I see from your profile that you and I have similar bikes though you have a S2 and X1W tucked in there between. I like the contrast between the older and newer Buells. I know what you mean on the S1 seat. Several weekends ago I rode and 15 miles from home I could not take it anymore and had to stop and walk a bit. |

I have to update my profile as I'm down to the S1 and X1W but I'm busy filling up the empty spaces with Triumph triples. My sister gave me a Corbin seat for the S1 which helped a lot but the bucket is too far back. If I had to do it again I'd send the seat to Sargent to see what they can do to make it useable. I just got a Sargent seat for my Triumph Sprint and it's really nice. |

Steve - maybe we could get together sometime. I'd love a test-sit on the s1 Corbin, my euro solo slides me too far forward and I'm trying to decide on a replacement... |

Oh, and to stay on topic: I lube my speedo cable with Dri-slide when I do my throttle cables. It flows downhill, and I've never had a drive failure. |

If the gas tank ever gets painted I can ride it around. My buddy has only had two tank sitting there for TWO YEARS. I should mention my Corbin S1 is for the twin tail. I just pump Valvoline Moly grease in where the cable goes and try to work as much into the guts as possible. The cable (might) take care of the rest. Dry Slide is good stuff, though.
