So, my bike has gone through phases of not wanting to start. In the past, it has kind of been a hit or miss whether it would start or not, but now it just won't at all. When I turn the key, the dash doesn't do the normal cycle, the check engine light doesn't turn on, and the fuel pump won't engage, but I does give a single click from the relays. The headlights, however, do turn on. Even more strange, before it shut down this last time, it would occasionally shut down after about 30 miles into the middle of a drive and wouldn't start back without a jump. I've charged and checked the battery, it is good. I've read the forums suggesting that the first problem may be the result of a bad starter switch, but would that explain it shutting down while driving? |

Have you swapped relays? A relay can click, but not work. I don't see how the starter could cause those symptoms. You haven't even engaged it yet when things are going wrong. |

How many miles? Any recent work from you? Dealer? Is this the original battery? |

I had that happen once when one of my main ignition switch wires was hanging by a single strand. Sometimes more than one strand would make contact when the two broken ends touched, other times not. I had to look at the back of the ignition switch right where the wire comes out of the switch housing. I also had that happen with bad relay too. |
